The Deal is On: A Licence to Thrill?
Right so seems like Skechers the footwear chaps have decided to change partners. They're being snapped up by 3G Capital for a cool $63 a share. A 30% premium no less. Makes you wonder if they knew something we didn’t eh? Shares are soaring. As I always say sometimes you have to know when to fold.
Greenberg's Gambit: No Time To Die (Yet)
Robert Greenberg Skechers' CEO is staying on which is a bit like M sticking around after I blow up a few bases. He seems rather pleased with this 3G Capital lot reckons they'll help his 'talented team'. Let's hope their 'expertise' is more convincing than some of the villains I've encountered. “We have all the time in the world” unless of course they mess up the supply chain.
Tariff Tantrums: A World Is Not Enough?
Ah trade wars. Always a sticky wicket. Seems Skechers was a bit worried about Trump's tariffs even signed a letter begging for an exemption. They also withdrew their 2025 forecast citing 'macroeconomic uncertainty'. Uncertainty? That’s my middle name! Though actually it’s… classified.
China Crisis: Live and Let Buy
Skechers is playing coy about how much of their stuff comes from China. Clever. Though given that two thirds of their business is outside the U.S. they’re hoping it won’t sting too much. Let's just say when it comes to global trade nobody does it better than…avoiding the subject.
3G's Angle: Golden Shoes
Apparently 3G Capital has been sniffing around Skechers for years. They reckon the long term outlook is rosy despite the tariff kerfuffle. Well someone's got to see the glass as half full right? Or maybe they just have a licence to print money.
The Verdict: Diamonds Are Forever (Maybe)
So Skechers is going private. Greenberg stays 3G Capital takes over and the retail world keeps spinning. Whether this partnership will lead to gold remains to be seen but I’ve learned one thing: Never say never...especially when there's a nice profit margin involved. Now if you'll excuse me I have a martini waiting. Shaken not stirred naturally.
