From Zero to Hero: Rhode's Rocket Fueled Rise
Alright cosmic crew Captain Marvel here reporting live from… well not space this time but the slightly less exciting (but still important!) world of beauty acquisitions. E.l.f. Beauty those savvy earthlings just announced they're planning to scoop up Hailey Bieber's Rhode in a deal that could reach a staggering $1 billion. That's more than some planets are worth I tell ya! This deal pending closure in fiscal 2026's second quarter is E.l.f.'s biggest move yet a combo of cash stock and potential performance based payouts. Rhode went from zero to $212 million in sales in under three years with only ten products direct to consumers. Talk about a Level 10 Kree warrior level performance! CEO Tarang Amin seemed as shocked as I was the first time I saw a Flerken – "I didn't think that was possible!" he exclaimed. Clearly Rhode's disruption caught their eye.
Bieber's Beauty Brigade: More Faces Places and Spaces (and Maybe the Multiverse?)
Hailey Bieber herself seems thrilled about the partnership. "From day one my vision for Rhode has been to make essential skin care and hybrid makeup you can use every day," she said. "Just three years into this journey our partnership with e.l.f. Beauty marks an incredible opportunity to elevate and accelerate our ability to reach more of our community with even more innovative products and widen our distribution globally." More faces places and spaces? Sounds like a mission statement I can get behind! Maybe they'll even send some Rhode products to Hala? Kree skin gets dry in space you know.
E.l.f.'s Stock Dip: A Minor Setback or a Skrull in Disguise?
Now not all is sunshine and Super Serum. E.l.f.'s shares took a slight dip after the announcement about 4%. But hey even Captain Marvel has bad hair days! (Okay rarely but still!) While they beat Wall Street's quarterly estimates – earnings per share at 78 cents adjusted vs. 72 cents expected and Revenue at $333 million vs. $328 million expected – they're holding back on future predictions thanks to those pesky tariffs. Seems like even cosmic heroes have to deal with earthly bureaucracy sometimes.
Tariffs and Tribulations: When China Becomes a Cosmic Problem
Speaking of tariffs E.l.f. gets a big chunk of its products from China which could make things… complicated. Remember when the Skrulls tried to imitate Earth governments? Yeah tariff negotiations can be just as confusing. They're planning to raise prices to offset some of these costs which is a bummer. But hey maybe Rhode can invent a tariff repelling face cream? I'd buy it! As Amin mentioned they paid more than 145% in duties before...let's just say *certain* agreements. These costs will be showing up soon. Prepare for impact!
Why Rhode? Targeting a Higher End Consumer (and Hopefully Galactic Diplomats)
So why Rhode? Well Rhode has more than doubled its customer base over the past year and generated $212 million in revenue in the 12 months ended March 31. Plus E.l.f. is looking to expand its skincare offerings and reach a more… shall we say *refined* demographic. E.l.f. is about $6.50 in its core entry price point while Rhode on average is in the high 20s. So yes they're aiming for those who can afford skincare that costs more than a cup of coffee (or a decent alien energy drink). Bieber will remain Chief Creative Officer which means more innovation is on the horizon. Hopefully some of that innovation will benefit intergalactic relations. Can you imagine the Skrulls and Kree bonding over a shared love of hyaluronic acid? One can dream!
A Risky Bet? High End Skincare in an Uncertain Economy
Ultimately this acquisition is a bet that people will keep splurging on fancy skincare even if the economy goes south. It's a bold move especially since E.l.f. is taking on debt to finance part of the deal. But hey sometimes you have to take risks to achieve… well not necessarily cosmic greatness but at least really really smooth skin. As for me I'll stick to harnessing cosmic energy for now. But who knows maybe I'll try out some Rhode products if they ever invent a serum that can withstand a supernova. Over and out!
