A Meeting Most Unpleasant
A Mando walks into a White House... sounds like a bad joke doesn't it? But this ain't no joke. Word on the street – or rather the HoloNet – is that the fella called 'Trump' had a pow wow with the big kahunas from Walmart Target and the like. Seems he wanted to chat about his 'tariffs.' Tariffs! Sounds like something Jabba would charge for a peek at his rancor. This is not the way to run a galactic empire let alone a country. Makes me wonder if these fellas have ever haggled for coaxium on Nar Shaddaa. Probably not. I have spoken.
The Price of Purity...or Cheap Clothes?
So what are these tariffs anyway? Seems they're taxes on stuff brought in from other places. Trump thinks it'll make things better but the retailers are sweating like a Jawa in a sandstorm. Walmart they’re saying they’re mostly good because they have a lot of goods made in America. Target though? They're in a bantha's backside. They sell all those fancy cheap clothes and home goods made overseas. If they ain't careful their customers will be looking at a serious price hike. I have spoken.
This is the Way...to a Recession?
The National Retail Federation or NRF a trade group that lobbies for and represents retailers is up in arms too saying tariffs mean higher prices for the everyday joe or should I say the everyday Womp Rat Herder. They reckon stuff like sneakers and toasters will cost more. Anxiety and uncertainty they call it. Sounds about right. Though I'm more concerned about the price of Beskar going up. That stuff ain't cheap as it is! This is not the way to keep the galaxy running smoothly. I have spoken.
Who's Laughing Now?
The retail CEO's gave nearly identical statements “We had a productive meeting with President Trump and his team and appreciated the opportunity to share our insights,” said a Walmart spokesperson. "We had a productive meeting with President Trump and our retail peers to discuss the path forward on trade and we remain committed to delivering value for American consumers," read the statement from Target. "We had an informative and constructive meeting with the President and look forward to continuing the dialogue," Home Depot's statement said. It appears only Lowes had no immediate response to CNBC requests for comment. If these retailers want to keep their businesses from becoming carbonite they better figure out a way to navigate these trade wars before they get turned into bounty hunting that is a complicated profession.
I Have Spoken But Will They Listen?
Now I ain't one for politics but I know a raw deal when I see one. These tariffs could hurt everyone from the Core Worlds to the Outer Rim. And for what? Some puffed up politician's ego? If you ask me they should be focused on real problems. Like getting rid of the Hutts or finding a decent cup of caf on Tatooine. This is not the way to run a business a country or a galaxy. I have spoken.
Beskar vs. Bargain Bins
So what's a Mandalorian to do? Well I'm gonna stick to what I know. Bounty hunting and keeping my Beskar shiny. But if you're a regular fella keep an eye on those prices. And maybe start learning how to barter. You never know when you'll need to trade a toaster for a ride off world. This is the way...to prepare for anything. I have spoken.
