All Too Well? More Troops Arrive
Okay so I'm hearing that the Trump administration has ordered an extra 2,000 members of the California Army National Guard to my beloved Los Angeles! Under federal command no less. I mean seriously is this 'Welcome to New York' but make it military? Even though the protests against immigration enforcement raids have like totally chilled out? Seems a bit much right? It’s like ordering a pizza for 20 when you know only 3 people are showing up. Are we expecting a 'Style' of resistance we haven't seen yet?
No Body No Crime? Curfew Lifted but Troops Stay
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass even lifted the city's nighttime curfew. She said it was all good that the curfew and other efforts were doing a stellar job protecting businesses and communities from 'bad actors.' But here's the plot twist: Trump's still sending in more troops! It’s like saying 'Look What You Made Me Do' to a city that's already behaving. Makes you wonder if someone's got a 'Blank Space' where their logic should be. What is it he fears? Does he think the Californians will change their minds and decide to vote him in next time?
State of Grace? The Troop Tally
So get this: We're now up to 4,800 troops in the LA area. That's 700 U.S. Marines and 4,100 California Army National Guard. The official line is that they're there to 'support the protection of federal functions personnel and property.' Sounds like a movie plot doesn’t it? But seriously does anyone else feel like we're living in an alternate reality where 'Fearless' takes on a whole new meaning? I really need to start shaking it off soon the narrative that is.
Defense Secretary's 'Love Story' with Deployments
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is out here defending the troop deployment at a Senate hearing. He claims the troops have been super professional and are just protecting federal agents. He even said he doesn't think district courts should be meddling in national security policy. Okay but what about checks and balances? It’s like he's singing a one verse 'Love Story' and ignoring the rest of the song. And when asked if he'd deploy troops to other cities he dodged the question like he was avoiding the paparazzi. Classic.
Bad Blood? California vs. Trump
Of course California's not exactly thrilled about all this. Governor Gavin Newsom and other state Democratic leaders weren't even asked about it – usually that's a *minor* detail before you send in the troops. Now there's a legal battle brewing. The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals seems to be leaning towards Trump's side which is just... *sigh*. Is this the 'End Game' or just another act in this never ending drama? It feels like we're stuck in a 'Mad Woman' situation but with politicians instead of ex boyfriends. At least the ex boyfriends apologize sometimes.
Are We Ready For It? The Big Question
Honestly all this troop deployment drama has me wondering: Are we ready for it? Is LA ready? Is the country ready? Because right now it feels like we're all just trying to navigate this 'Delicate' situation without stepping on any landmines. Maybe we should all just take a deep breath put on some 'Red' lipstick and remember that 'Long Live' is a song about hope. Or maybe I should just stick to writing songs and leave the politics to the politicians. But where's the fun in that?
