Once Upon a Crime...
Okay so you guys know I love a good plot twist right? Well this one’s a doozy. Apparently some dude in Wisconsin named Demetric DeShawn Scott thought he could pull a 'Look What You Made Me Do' kind of move and frame an undocumented immigrant to get him deported. Because you know 'tis the damn season... for avoiding jury trials? This inmate was all like 'I got a plan I got a hell of a plan!' And honey it was hellacious alright just not in the way he thought. Scott who's chilling in jail decided to pen some 'lovely' letters threatening President Trump all under the guise of one Ramon Morales Reyes a dishwasher and father of three. Talk about 'Bad Blood'!
The Grand (Jailhouse) Strategy
So here’s the deal. Scott is facing charges for allegedly robbing and battering Morales Reyes. His genius plan (and I use that term loosely like when I try to cook) was to get Morales Reyes deported so he wouldn't have to face him in court. 'This dude is a goddamn illegal immigrant and they just need to pick his ass up,' Scott said according to the complaint. Smooth real smooth. It was all part of a master plan to avoid his Jury Trial on July 15th. 'Cause you know no witness no trial right? Wrong! Cue the dramatic music.
Caught in the 'Getaway Car'
But here's where it gets juicy. Turns out our friend Scott isn't exactly a criminal mastermind. Law enforcement listened to some recorded calls from the jail and it became clear that Scott was the one who wrote the letters. 'The detective was like Well whatever your plan was it worked he said cause he got deported now because we had to go pick him up,' Scott told his mom in a call. 'Out of all the time I've been in here 19 months his ass got what he deserve,' Scott said. 'He got deported the way he should've because he wasn't supposed to be here anyway so he can take his ass back to Mexico. He took 19 months away from me and probably longer than that.' Whoops! Busted! It's like when you think you're being all sneaky but the paparazzi catches you sneaking out of your ex's apartment. 'I knew you were trouble when you walked in...' Seriously dude did you not see this coming?
Morales Reyes' 'Delicate' Situation
Now poor Morales Reyes is still in custody because well he was in the U.S. illegally. And despite being a victim himself – he was allegedly attacked with a box cutter by Scott – he's now facing deportation. His lawyer is trying to get him out saying 'Honestly it's kind of been a whirlwind the past few days. It's been a lot to process. It's just unfortunate that this has spun to the level it has and that Mr. Morales has been dragged into the limelight in this way but I just hope that justice prevails. It's been hard for him and his family.' Ugh talk about a 'Cruel Summer' for this guy and his family.
DHS Takes the Stage (and Maybe Misses a Cue)
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is all like 'The investigation into the threat is ongoing.' Okay cool. But maybe DHS should also acknowledge that they kinda jumped the gun on this one? Remember when Krist Noem announced Morales Reyes' arrest with a statement basically thanking ICE for getting this 'illegal alien who threatened to assassinate President Trump' behind bars? Awkward! Maybe it's time for a 'Teardrops on My Guitar' apology tour from DHS? Or maybe they should just follow my lead and drop a surprise album to distract everyone. Just kidding... mostly.
The Moral of the Story? 'Karma' is Real
So what have we learned kids? Don't try to frame people with fake letters threatening the President especially if you're already in jail. It's just not a good look. And maybe just maybe let's try to be a little more careful about who we rush to judgment on. Because sometimes the real villains are hiding in plain sight just like that one snake emoji that keeps popping up in my mentions. This whole situation is just a reminder that life is full of unexpected plot twists and sometimes 'You can't spell awesome without me' Karma really does come around to bite you.
