A Tail of Two Brothers (and a Podcast Empire!)
Madre de Dios! It is I Puss in Boots reporting live from the ever shifting sands of the media world! This week at Amazon's Upfronts a spectacle grander than my own legend I witnessed a true revolution. Not of the sword mind you but of the screen! The Kelce brothers those titans of the gridiron graced the stage not just for their sporting prowess but for their podcast 'New Heights.' A podcast so successful it makes my boots quiver with envy. It seems even a legendary gato like myself must adapt to the changing times. As the saying goes 'Tell me what you want what you really really want' and what the advertisers want is sport!
Sports: The New Gold or Perhaps Fish Flavored Gold?
Live sports once the exclusive domain of dusty old televisions have become the darlings of Upfronts. Fox NBCUniversal Disney Warner Bros. Discovery – all vying for a piece of the action. The economic winds may howl but the promise of devoted sports fans keeps the advertising galleons sailing. But hold on to your sombreros amigos! A new contender has entered the arena: the video podcast. It seems humans are spending more time looking at their phones than at proper entertainment so podcasts have adapted to the moving picture format to grasp the attention of the masses! A development even I Puss in Boots find…intriguing.
Netflix's Purr fect Plan: Podcasts on the Menu?
Even the mighty Netflix a streaming giant that makes giants seem like kittens is taking notice. According to Ted Sarandos they're considering adding podcasts to their already overflowing buffet of content. He even said the line between podcasts and talk shows are getting 'blurry'! It seems everyone wants a piece of this podcast pie and if Netflix gets involved that piece will be bigger than even my ego (if that's possible!).
YouTube's Podcast Fiesta: A Visual Delight!
Ah YouTube the digital playground where cats become stars and podcasts become video sensations! The shift from audio only to video podcasts is undeniable. 'Call Her Daddy,' 'New Heights,' and even Joe Rogan's interview with a certain shall we say 'colorful' politician have amassed millions of views. Millions I tell you! More than the average episode of telenovela! YouTube CEO Neal Mohan has even declared that podcasts are 'thriving' on the platform. Could this be the future of media or just a fleeting fad? Only time and my impeccable sense of style will tell.
Amazon's Wondery: The Podcast Powerhouse
Amazon never one to be left behind in the treasure hunt acquired Wondery the podcast studio behind such hits as 'Dr. Death' and the aforementioned 'New Heights.' They're even creating 'FAST channels,' those ad supported streaming havens to showcase their video podcasts. Wondery is allowed to sell their own advertising inventory said Angie More head of advertising at Wondery. This is what makes video such a great tool! If you want the attention of those watching then by all means shove a soft drink in the face and have someone behind them waving around a banner! I must say these humans are clever.
The Sports Podcast Revolution: A Grand Slam!
The sports world is leading this podcast revolution. Sinclair another media mogul is also diving headfirst into sports podcasts. The Kelce brothers' deal with Wondery is reportedly worth over $100 million! LeBron James and Steve Nash are also joining the fray with their video podcast 'Mind the Game.' Matt Schwimmer CEO of Playmaker HQ says the word 'podcast' is evolving into a 'digital content series.' Even traditional TV networks are starting to take notice. The budgets may not be there yet but mark my words they will come. Just like my legend the video podcast is here to stay. Now if you'll excuse me I have a sudden craving for leche.
