What in the Chandler is Going On?!
Alright Beast Crew buckle up! We've got some news hotter than a million degree knife cutting through a birthday cake. So Paramount Global you know the folks behind a bunch of shows and movies just dropped a memo saying they're hitting pause on a bunch of their diversity equity and inclusion (DEI) policies. What?! Apparently it's all because of some moves from the new Trump administration including an executive order cracking down on DEI programs.
No More Numbers?! What the Heck?!
Basically Paramount's saying they're ditching those 'aspirational numerical goals' for hiring based on race ethnicity sex or gender. And they're not gonna collect that data on job applications anymore except where they legally have to. I'm not gonna lie this sounds like a challenge!
But Wait There's More!
Now the bigwigs at Paramount are saying inclusivity and collaboration are still like totally part of their vibe. They even said they'll keep looking for talent from all backgrounds. Okay cool cool but dropping the DEI policies is a big move! They claim they still need to keep people from all backgrounds involved to 'be the best storytellers'. But is it enough?
Remember When They Gave Away Millions?!
Remember when Paramount donated millions to racial justice causes back in 2020? Or when they bragged about their 'Content for Change' campaign? And let's not forget the annual Inclusion Week. Well things are changing. Did we just lose millions of dollars for content creation?!
They're Not Alone!
Paramount's not the only one doing this either! Walmart Target Amazon and a bunch of other companies are also rolling back their DEI goals. But then you've got Apple and Costco standing their ground and saying they're still all in on DEI. It's a real rollercoaster folks! I guess we'll just have to give away more money to make change happen!
What's Next?! The Plot Thickens!
What is this Squid Game?! Looks like Warner Bros. Discovery is rebranding their DEI stuff as just 'inclusion.' And Disney's messing with their programs too. Even PBS is shutting down its DEI office to keep Uncle Sam happy. It's a whole domino effect! It really does beg the question how do we get 100 Million subscribers?!
