A Storm of Savings is Brewing

My loyal subjects the realm of Westeros may be rife with dragons and White Walkers but even we can appreciate a good ledger. Pfizer a company that lords over the potions and pills of this world has announced further cost cutting measures. It appears that even these giants are not immune to the chill winds of financial winter. They are now aiming for a total of $7.7 billion in savings by 2027. This reminds me of the time I had to sell some Unsullied to pay for dragon feed! Desperate times desperate measures as they say.

Paxlovid's Long Farewell

The article speaks of dwindling sales for their antiviral Covid pill Paxlovid. It appears the realm is less fearful of the plague or perhaps they have found their own remedies (maybe a good dose of fire and blood?). Sales plummeted by 76%! Even my dragons would struggle to make that kind of fiery decline. It serves as a reminder that even the mightiest can fall just like the Mad King before me. Remember folks even the best of us can get overrun if we do not adapt.

AI: The New Unsullied?

Pfizer plans to achieve these savings through “enhanced digital enablement,” or as I like to call it replacing people with soulless automatons. Automation and artificial intelligence are their new Unsullied costing less and never complaining. However will these machines show compassion or will they simply follow algorithms? I trust my dragons more than any algorithm I assure you! Though it's a useful tool we must always proceed with caution. Perhaps Varys would know more about the shadowy digital networks.

Trump's Tariffs: A King's Ransom?

Ah tariffs! A political game almost as complex as the Game of Thrones itself! President Trump they say plans to impose tariffs on pharmaceuticals. Pfizer surprisingly remains unfazed maintaining its full year outlook. They claim to have a team analyzing the potential impact. Perhaps they should consult Tyrion; he always had a knack for navigating treacherous political waters. I wonder what Littlefinger would do in their situation probably buy up all the medicine and sell it at a profit!

Medicare Woes: A Golden Crown of Thorns?

Changes to Medicare a program to support our elders will also hurt sales. It seems even the most well intentioned initiatives can have unintended consequences like when I tried to abolish slavery. (Some masters were not pleased). Pfizer expects to lose $1 billion due to these changes. One billion! That's enough to buy a whole army of Dothraki screamers! It seems the Iron Throne isn't the only seat laden with thorns these days.

A Dragon's Hoard of Savings

Despite these challenges Pfizer remains optimistic touting its “underlying strength.” They believe they can navigate this “uncertain and volatile external environment.” Well good for them! I Daenerys Stormborn of the House Targaryen wish them luck. May their strategies be as fierce as my dragons and their resolve as unyielding as the Unsullied. And may their profits never dwindle lest they feel the heat of my… scrutiny. After all a pharmaceutical giant must be strong... else the long winter will come for them all.

Maybe they should try hatching some dragons... more effective than AI.
