A chilling account of the politically motivated shooting of Minnesota lawmakers, leaving one dead and others fighting for their lives. Even for me, this is a little too much drama.

State of Shock: No Body No Crime...Except There Is

Okay Swifties gather 'round. I'm trading in my guitar for a pen (well keyboard) to talk about something that's frankly *terrifying*. This isn't about a bad breakup or a Reputation era comeback; this is about real life horror in Minnesota. Apparently a 57 year old dude named Vance Boelter (sounds like a villain in a thriller right?) is the prime suspect in the shooting of former Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark. They're gone and honestly it feels like a punch to the gut. It's like when you realize the bridge in 'All Too Well' isn't just a story but someone's actual life. Minnesota Democratic state senator John Hoffman and his wife Yvette were also shot and are fighting for their lives and I'm over here hoping they make it through okay? This is not 'the best day' at all.

He Said She Said They Shot: A Political 'Bad Blood'?

So get this: authorities are calling it a 'politically motivated assassination.' It seems Boelter who works at a security firm (ironic right? Like when I write a song about karma and then bad things happen to everyone else *except* me) impersonated a police officer. He went full 'Blank Space' psycho and targeted these lawmakers in their own homes. Can you imagine feeling safe nowhere? It's 'Cruel Summer' turned into a real life nightmare. Our fearless leader Gov. Tim Walz is cautiously optimistic about the Hoffmans' survival and I'm sending all my good vibes their way. Because honestly 'You Need to Calm Down' takes on a whole new meaning when people are literally fighting for their lives.

The Getaway Car: Not So Swift

The cops got called to the Hoffmans' place around 2 a.m. and then being the heroes they are they proactively checked on Hortman's house. That's when the fireworks started. This Boelter guy opened fire on them! A shootout ensued and he managed to escape but the cops found his car. And guess what? It had emergency lights and sirens – talk about 'Style'! Inside they discovered a 'manifesto' listing other lawmakers. It's like a twisted version of my 'Burn Book,' except instead of writing sassy lyrics this guy was plotting something truly evil. 'Look What You Made Me Do' comes to mind but in a very bad way.

Trump's Take: Shake it Off...Responsibility?

Even *he who shall not be named* (just kidding... Trump) got briefed on the situation. He said anyone involved will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Well duh! I mean I'm pretty sure that's what laws are for. U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi is also on the case sending in the FBI. It's a whole 'End Game' scenario trying to catch this guy and bring him to justice. Let’s hope that this is the story of us… getting this guy behind bars.

Rally Cry: Stay Home Swifties!

Because of all this chaos the Minnesota State Patrol is advising people to avoid political rallies. Seriously? It’s like telling me not to write a song about an ex – impossible! But in this case it's actually important. 'Out of an abundance of caution,' they say. I mean I'd rather stream 'Folklore' from the safety of my couch than risk getting caught in the crossfire of some political 'Mad Woman.' Thousands of demonstrations were planned nationwide as part of "No Kings Day" to protest Trump's policies. But right now safety first Swifties.

Condemnation Chorus: A Song of Unity (For Once)

The statements condemning the violence are pouring in faster than the streams for 'The Tortured Poets Department'. Democratic National Committee chair Ken Martin said his 'heart is broken.' Everyone's calling for an end to the violence. It's a rare moment of unity like when everyone agrees that my cats are adorable. But seriously lawmakers should be able to do their jobs without fearing for their lives. This isn't a 'Love Story'; it's a tragedy. And until Boelter is caught it's a 'Long Story Short'...one that's far from over.
