Gates' Great Reads: A Swiftie's Perspective
Okay Swifties gather 'round! Bill Gates yes THE Bill Gates just dropped his summer reading list. And guess what? It's all memoirs! Apparently Mr. 'Source Code' (his own memoir *gasp*) is on a 'serious learning mode' and decided to share his inspo. Now I'm not saying my life would make a *bad* memoir but hey maybe I need a billionaire's seal of approval first? "Long live the walls we crashed through"... or maybe just the books we're about to read.
From Watergate to 'Water': The Stories That Inspire Bill
So what made the cut? First up Katharine Graham's 'Personal History'. Bill mentioned her standing up to President Nixon. Talk about a "Bad Blood" situation! Then there's Nicholas Kristof's 'Chasing Hope,' a book that inspired Bill's foundation's work on global health. It made him write "changed the course of my life," I wonder if one day a song will inspire him too? It's a world of "Fearless" choices isn't it?
Tara Westover and the Power of Breaking Free (Like a Bird!)
Next we have Tara Westover's 'Educated.' Bill loved it so much he put it on his list *before*! It’s about breaking free from a strict upbringing to pursue education. It shows that it is never too late to break away and be "The Lucky One". "At some point in your childhood you go from thinking your parents know everything to seeing them as adults with limitations,” I think we can all relate to that.
Trevor Noah: Laughing Through the Apartheid Years
Trevor Noah's 'Born a Crime' is also on the list. This one's about growing up biracial in apartheid South Africa. I mean talk about using humor to cope with tough times. I wonder what his favorite song is. I bet his life is a real adventure. I wonder if he has ever thought "This is me trying"?
Bono's Vulnerability: A Rock Star Confesses (and Inspires Bill)
And finally Bono's 'Surrender.' Bill called it “the best memoir by a rock star I actually know.” Apparently Bono's openness inspired Bill to be more vulnerable in his own memoir. You know I might need to take notes too. Sharing is caring! I might start making my own memoir. It would be my story and I would be telling it "All Too Well".
Will My Memoir Make The Cut Next Year? (Probably Not But A Girl Can Dream!)
So there you have it folks! Bill Gates' summer reading list. While I'm still waiting for my invite to the billionaire book club I'm gonna go ahead and add these to my own TBR pile. After all “the best people in life are free.” Even if they're stuck between the pages of a book! And hey maybe next year my own lyrical masterpiece will be on the list. A girl can dream right? After all "I never miss a bullet train"
