Holy Frijoles! A Tax on Sunshine?
Madre de Dios! This is Puss in Boots reporting live from... well wherever the wind takes me! And today the wind carries a whiff of scandal a scent of... taxes? Sí amigos! The Senate Republicans bless their cotton socks are apparently thinking of slapping a new tax on clean energy projects! If I didn't have nine lives this news would have surely ended one of them! It seems some politicos have been watching too many reruns of 'How to Lose Friends and Alienate Renewable Energy'. It's like trying to teach a kitten to hate milk! Preposterous! I swear sometimes I think these politicians are playing pin the tail on the donkey... blindfolded.
Hasta la Vista Tax Credits?
These 'measures,' as they so politely call them could be the end of hundreds of thousands of construction jobs. Construction jobs! Imagine all the tiny hard hats gathering dust! It is as they say a dark day for the electric grid. And what about the electricity prices eh? Do they not care about the cost of my warm milk at night? It's like they want to force this gato to go back to stealing from the rich... which admittedly I was quite good at if I do say so myself. Perhaps they should consider being on the receiving end of my irresistible 'Puss in Boots' eyes?
China? Is That You?
The Senate GOP draft a document so thrilling it could put a siesta loving cat to sleep reportedly imposes a new tax on renewable energy projects if they dare to source components from foreign entities primarily China. Diablos! Now I understand being cautious but is this truly necessary? It’s as if they expect me to believe the moon is made of queso. The renewable energy industry is quite surprised apparently. As surprised as I am when I look into the mirror and see how dashing I truly am!
A $450 Billion Hiccup!
This tax amigos could burden the industry by a staggering $4 billion to $7 billion! That is a lot of doubloons even for a swashbuckling gato like myself! And the tax credits? Gone after 2027 poof! This could threaten to eliminate 300 gigawatts of wind and solar projects. That's $450 billion of infrastructure investment down the drain. It appears the construction industry is in a panic fearing the loss of nearly 2 million jobs. And if I were to make a guess and I am I would suggest we hope President Trump knows what he is doing.
Job Killing Contraption!
One brave soul Sean McGarvey even called it the "biggest job killing bill in the history of this country." That’s a bold statement even for someone who clearly hasn't faced the wrath of a scorned Puss in Boots. It is the equivalent of terminating more than 1,000 Keystone XL pipeline projects! I suggest the Senate reconsider their choices; it's time for a change! For them to be on the receiving end of my gratitude for helping the planet.
Elon Musk: "Utterly Insane and Destructive"
Even the ingenious Elon Musk chimed in branding the bill “utterly insane and destructive.” He claims that the Senate is favouring the past and severely damaging the future. Ouch! Musk is as smart as he is...well a billionaire. If I had his money I'd hire a personal chef to ensure I had endless supplies of leche. For now I will simply have to save up the few coins that I earn from reporting this scandalous behaviour of the Senate. Perhaps I will get some help from Shrek. I have a feeling he will not be happy that politicians are destroying his swamp.
