A Whisker Away From Economic Disaster?

Madre de Dios! Your favorite swashbuckling gato Puss in Boots reporting live from… well not from Korea sadly. I'm far too busy maintaining my legendary status! But I have been following the kerfuffle in South Korea where the presidential frontrunner a certain Lee Jae myung is saying '¡No gracias!' to rushing into a trade deal with those gringo amigos in the United States. Seems this election business has thrown a wrench into the works and the clock is ticking like a frightened mouse!

Trump's Trade Tariffs: A Boot to the Economy?

This Lee fellow says these tariff negotiations are going to be a Herculean task for whoever wins the election on June 3rd. Can you imagine? More challenging than finding a decent pair of boots in a swamp! And let's be honest some of these trade deals… they smell worse than Shrek's socks after a long day of… well you know. The South Korean trade minister is also feeling the pressure saying there's just not enough time to get a good deal done. 'Ay caramba!' as I always say when faced with impossible odds 'This is going to take all nine of my lives!'

Diplomacy or Plunder? A Cat's Eye View

Lee with the wisdom of a seasoned adventurer (almost as wise as yours truly) rightly points out that diplomacy should benefit BOTH sides. 'If one country benefits and the other suffers unilaterally that is not diplomacy. It is called plunder.' ¡Muy cierto! It reminds me of when Humpty Dumpty tried to swindle me out of my magic beans. Never trust a talking egg amigos and NEVER rush into a bad deal! Time to unleash the Baby Face!

Peace on the Peninsula: A Purr fect Solution?

Now this is where it gets interesting. Our friend Lee is also talking about mending fences with North Korea. He's not a fan of the ousted Yoon's tough guy act saying it just stirred up trouble and scared away the investors. 'We should maintain and strengthen our powerful defense capabilities... but find a path toward dialogue cooperation communication and coexistence where possible,' he declares. Sounds like a recipe for world peace… or at least a tasty bowl of leche!

The Polls: Is Lee Losing His Nine Lives?

But here's the rub. While Lee is still leading in the polls (45% support not bad!) this Kim Moon soo fellow Yoon's old labor minion is catching up fast. The gap is shrinking faster than my hat in a rainstorm! Lee however remains confident that the people won't vote for anyone who supported that whole 'martial law' business. 'I am Puss in Boots! And Puss in Boots is not intimidated by… uh… polls!' (Okay maybe a little intimidated.)

Will South Korea Get its Happy Ending?

So what's the moral of this story amigos? Well it seems that South Korea is at a crossroads. Will they rush into a trade deal that bites them in the… well you know… or will they hold their ground and fight for a fair agreement? Only time will tell! But one thing is certain: Puss in Boots will be watching… with a keen eye and a sharper sword! And if things get really bad I might just have to pay them a little visit. After all I do make a mean bibimbap.
