The Curious Case of the Encrypted Cabinet

Ah my dear readers it seems even in the Muggle world secrets are best kept…or at least attempted to be kept with a touch of technology! It has come to my attention that Mr. Mike Waltz a former National Security Advisor appears to be engaging in a bit of a clandestine conversation via an app called 'Signal.' One might say it's rather like using an Invisibility Cloak though alas Reuters' Evelyn Hockstein seems to possess a rather keen 'Accio' for photographic evidence. The image captured during a Cabinet meeting shows Mr. Waltz engaged with the app chatting away with a cast of characters that would make even Professor Snape raise an eyebrow. Is it discretion? Or simply as I have often advised 'It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies but just as much to stand up to our friends?'

The Vance Enigma: Who Else Lurks in the Digital Shadows?

Amongst the names partially visible one Mr. JD Vance the Vice President no less! It appears that Mr. Waltz has active conversations with at least six other users Marco Rubio Tulsi Gabbard and Steve Witkoff. One must wonder what weighty matters of state are being discussed via encrypted texts? Perhaps they are merely exchanging recipes for treacle tart though I suspect the reality is far more complex. After all as I’ve always said 'Curiosity is not a sin… But we should exercise caution with our curiosity.'

Signalgate Revisited: A Blast from the Past

Ah 'Signalgate'! A scandal of the past or so one would hope. It appears this isn't the first time Mr. Waltz's digital dalliances have raised eyebrows. Earlier this year a discussion about airstrikes on Houthi targets in Yemen was…shall we say rather publicly aired. The inclusion of Mr. Jeffrey Goldberg editor in chief of The Atlantic in the conversation led to rather uncomfortable questions about classified information. Now it seems President Trump himself advised against the use of Signal quipping "Maybe don't use Signal okay?" One wonders if Mr. Waltz took this sage advice to heart...or perhaps he merely needed a Remembrall to remember it!

Approved or Not Approved: A Muggle Conundrum

A White House spokeswoman Ms. Anna Kelly claims Signal is an approved app for government use. A curious statement indeed given the previous kerfuffles. It reminds me of the Ministry of Magic's stance on certain Dark Arts practices: officially frowned upon yet...wink...still practiced in certain corners. Perhaps much like a well placed Disillusionment Charm the truth is more nuanced than it appears. It’s like trying to explain Quidditch to a Muggle; the concept is simple enough but the execution...oh the execution!

Promotion and Probing: A Pensive of Speculation

The timing of this revelation is rather…intriguing. Shortly after the Reuters photo surfaced President Trump announced Mr. Waltz's nomination to be the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. Is this a reward? A distraction? Or simply a case of remarkable coincidence? As I’ve learned over the years “It is our choices Harry that show what we truly are far more than our abilities.” I trust Mr. Waltz is making wise choices indeed.

Rubio Takes the Helm: A Temporary Transfiguration?

In the interim it seems Mr. Marco Rubio will serve as interim national security advisor. A temporary transformation perhaps? One hopes he brings the same level of…enthusiasm…to the role that he displays on encrypted messaging apps. Regardless it seems the wizarding err political world is never short of a surprise or two. After all as I always say "Nitwit! Blubber! Oddment! Tweak!" ...or perhaps in this case "Signal! Secrecy! Scrutiny! Shake up!"
