The Unexpected Assist

Alright folks MJ here. Heard China's retail sales are up like I used to be in the fourth quarter. 6.4% jump? Not bad. But let's not start celebrating championships just yet. It seems the government's been handing out subsidies like I used to hand out losses to the Knicks. And while that's giving the economy a bit of a boost is it enough to keep it going? I'm just saying relying on handouts is like relying on Scottie Pippen to score 40 every night. It ain't gonna happen. You need a solid team a solid strategy and a whole lot of hustle.

Deflation? I Take That Personally

This 'deflation' thing they're talking about? Sounds like when the refs were calling ticky tack fouls against me. Annoying and it messes with your rhythm. China's been battling this for months apparently. But just like I figured out how to drive to the basket without getting called for an offensive foul every time China needs to find a way to get those prices moving in the right direction. Maybe they should try selling more shoes. I know a guy who could help with that... (wink).

Property Woes: Brick by Brick… Falling Down?

Now about this property market... Seems like it's dropping faster than my opponents when I drove to the basket. They say home prices are falling especially in the big cities. That's not good. A strong economy needs a strong foundation and right now it sounds like China's foundation is made of Jell O. They need to stabilize this thing and fast. Otherwise they're gonna have a real mess on their hands.

Trade Wars: Another Game Another Challenge

Trade wars tariffs... Sounds like the Pistons trying to use the 'Jordan Rules' on me. Tough but not impossible to overcome. China's exports to the U.S. took a hit but they're finding new markets in Southeast Asia and Europe. Smart move. You gotta be adaptable in this game. If one door closes find another one. Or you know just jump over the wall. Whatever works.

Unemployment: Keeping the Bench Warm?

The unemployment rate's down which is good news. Nobody wants to see people sitting on the bench when they should be in the game. But let's not get complacent. China needs to keep creating opportunities so everyone can get a chance to shine. And maybe they can give some of those unemployed folks a job cleaning my shoes. I hear that pays pretty well.

The Final Buzzer: Can China Seal the Deal?

So what's the bottom line? China's economy is showing some signs of life but it's not time to pop the champagne just yet. They need more than just short term fixes. They need a long term strategy a commitment to innovation and a whole lot of grit. They need to be like Mike. And remember even I couldn't win every game on my own. It takes a team. So let's see if China can put together a winning team and bring home the championship. I'll be watching... from my golf course of course.
