Move Fast and Break Things... or the Constitution?
Okay so apparently some folks (14 states to be exact) are NOT thrilled with the *ahem* *unconventional* approach we took to streamlining the government. They're suing saying Elon DOGE and Trump didn't exactly follow the rulebook when making changes. You know 'move fast and break things?' Turns out sometimes those things are laws. Who knew?
White House Spin: He's Just a Friend!
The White House tried to downplay Elon's role calling him a mere 'advisor.' Like 'Oh he just pops in for coffee and gives us like totally brilliant ideas about saving money!' But Judge Chutkan wasn't buying it. She basically said 'Come on you guys. We all know he's more than just a suggestion box.' I mean let's be real have you seen the guy's Twitter feed? Subtle is not exactly his brand.
DOGE Does Washington... with Scissors
So Elon and his team at DOGE (I'm still not entirely sure what that stands for but it sounds cool right?) were tasked with cutting the fat in the federal government. Regulations offices websites... nothing was safe. It was like a digital Marie Kondo situation. 'Does this spark joy? No? DELETE!' Except instead of old sweaters it was like government bureaucracy.
Houston We Have a Problem (with Authority)
The heart of the lawsuit is that Elon isn't a Senate confirmed officer. Basically he didn't go through the proper channels to wield this much power. The states are arguing that he's overstepping his boundaries. It's kind of like giving an intern the keys to the executive bathroom. Maybe a bit too much responsibility too soon?
Trump Dodges a Bullet (For Now)
Good news for the ex President! The judge decided that he couldn't be directly sued in this case. Apparently presidents have the right to appoint people even if those people have some let's say *unique* ideas about running things. It's good to be the king or at least have been the king I guess.
The Zuck's Two Cents (Because Everyone Asked)
Look I get it. Change is hard. Especially when it involves someone as... *disruptive* as Elon. But sometimes you have to break a few eggs to make an omelet. Or in this case maybe just update the terms of service. And hey at least it's not the Metaverse right? That place needs a serious reboot.
