The Capitol… I Mean Bogota Strikes Again

Well isn't this just like old times? Except instead of reaping ceremonies and televised murder it's... a senator getting shot in Bogota. Miguel Uribe they say he's a potential presidential contender. Sounds like a Career Tribute to me. They tell me he's from the right wing Democratic Center party. Right wing left wing...doesn't matter much when you're staring down the barrel of a gun does it? Seems like the kind of thing Snow would have orchestrated if he were into South American politics. I guess the Hunger Games truly never end they just change arenas.

Headshots and Headlines: The New Normal?

Uribe was shot in the head during a campaign event. A public park they say. So much for safety in numbers. Reminds me of trying to find Peeta in the arena. Always looking over your shoulder never knowing where the next threat is coming from. They say he doesn't have a well known platform yet. Maybe getting shot will help with that? In Panem a little bit of tragedy goes a long way. Sad but true. At least he's got one now: survive a bullet to the brain.

Family Matters: When History Repeats Itself (Unfortunately)

Turns out Uribe comes from a 'prominent political family.' His granddad was president his mom was kidnapped and killed by one of Escobar's armed groups. Talk about a family legacy! Makes my volunteer tribute look like a walk in the woods. You would think that with that sort of history he would take extra precautions. Instead it's a blatant repeat of “history repeating itself” not that anyone in power ever seems to learn anything do they?

Fighting the First Battle: A Wife's Hope

His wife Maria Claudia Tarazona said he 'fought his first battle and it went well.' Gives you a lump in your throat doesn't it? It always comes back to family doesn't it? They're parents to a young son. Just like Prim always worth fighting for. "Every hour is a critical hour," she says. You can say that again. Every hour in the arena felt like a lifetime especially when Peeta was injured.

Intensive Care: The New Arena?

Doctors performed procedures on his head and thigh. Sounds pleasant. Reminds me of when Gale got whipped. The hospital is now his new arena. Let’s hope he fares better than Rue although I am sure Bogota’s finest will exploit this incident to their benefit.

May the Odds Be Ever NOT In Your Favor

Bogota's mayor Carlos Galan wants increased protection for all candidates. You think? About time someone learned from past mistakes. His own father was assassinated. Guess it takes a tragedy to wake people up. But really how many times do we have to watch history repeat itself before we actually do something about it? This whole thing is just a stark reminder that whether you're in Panem or Colombia the odds are never really in your favor. Especially when you're standing in the arena.
