Politics is Politics Family is Family
Alright family let's talk business – and by business I mean the kind that could make or break you faster than a quarter mile race. Seems like ol' Trumpy's got himself a tax bill he's trying to push through but some folks ain't buyin' what he's sellin'. It's all about this SALT thing – State and Local Tax deductions. Basically people in states like New York and California where taxes are higher than Letty's tolerance for bad drivers get to deduct some of that from their federal taxes. But some Republicans are saying it's not enough. Now I ain't no accountant but I know when family's gettin' shortchanged and that ain't right.
Show Me The Money!
These so called "SALT Caucus" Republicans are holding their ground and that's how it should be. The article states that back in 2017 they capped the SALT deduction at $10,000. People in states where taxes are high were not happy about it. Now Trump wants to raise it to $30,000 but these Republicans aren't having it. They want more and rightfully so. Word on the street is Trump even went to Capitol Hill to try and strong arm them like I used to do at race wars. But these guys ain't backin' down.
Respect is Earned Not Given
Trump apparently got real blunt with one of the holdouts Rep. Mike Lawler. Told him "I know your district better than you do," and "If you lose because of SALT you were going to lose anyway." Now that's cold even for a guy who’s been known to drive a car through buildings. Respect is earned not given and you don't earn it by talkin' down to people especially family. The SALT Caucus came back with a statement sharing Trump's call for unity. They called the SALT deduction a matter of fundamental fairness for hardworking families. And they are right.
Donor States and Fast Cars
Here's the kicker: they even called out the fact that their states are "donor states," meaning they pay more in taxes to the federal government than they get back in benefits. It's like always footing the bill at family dinner – eventually someone's gotta say something.
Dont F*** Around with Medicaid!
This tax bill battle is a lot like trying to fix up a classic muscle car – everyone's got their own idea of what it should look like. You know the conservatives want even more cuts especially to Medicaid. Trump apparently told the caucus "Don’t f around with Medicaid." I have to agree with him on this one. Medicaid is for the families.
Family Forever...or Until the Next Tax Bill?
At the end of the day this whole tax bill situation is a reminder that even in the world of politics family matters. And sometimes family has to stand their ground to get what they deserve. As for Trump and Johnson they better figure things out quick or this bill is gonna end up in the junkyard faster than a souped up Supra at a demolition derby. Remember the most important thing in life will always be the people in this room. Salute mi familia.
