Family First Taxes Second?

Alright family Dom here. Heard about this whole tax bill drama in Washington. Seems like even politicians got family drama huh? Trump's trying to push this tax bill but some Republicans from states like New York and California are pumpin' the brakes. They're all about this thing called 'SALT' – State and Local Tax deductions. Basically it's about how much people can deduct from their federal taxes based on what they pay in state and local taxes. And these guys ain't happy. You know what I always say: You don't turn your back on family even when they're arguing over money!

The $10,000 Slap in the Face

So back in 2017 these Republicans capped the SALT deduction at $10,000. Now for folks in states with high taxes that's like someone sayin' you can only use nos for a quarter mile. It just ain't enough! This new bill wants to bump it up to $30,000 but these blue state Republicans are still like 'Nah fam that ain't cuttin' it.' They feel like they're gettin' played because they're 'donor states,' sendin' more money to the feds than they get back. Sounds like someone needs a lesson in respect.

Trump's Tough Love: 'Let It Go'

Trump even went to Capitol Hill to talk to these guys try to get 'em on board. Apparently he told one guy 'If you lose because of SALT you were gonna lose anyway.' That's like telling Brian 'If you wreck your car it was gonna happen sooner or later.' Doesn't exactly inspire loyalty does it? But hey sometimes you gotta be direct even if it stings a little. It's all about family but also about gettin' the job done and maybe Trump thinks tough love is the only way.

$40,000... But With A Catch

So the Republican leadership offered a compromise: a $40,000 cap for people earning under $751,600 a year. Seems generous right? But then it drops back down to $30,000 for the poors. That's like givin' Letty a souped up engine then takin' it away after a few races. These blue state Republicans see right through it. They ain't gonna betray their families back home just for a temporary fix.

Unity or Betrayal?

These Republicans from New York New Jersey and California put out a statement saying they want unity but also a 'fair SALT deduction.' They even remind everyone that Trump promised to fix SALT. It's like remindin' me that I promised Mia I wouldn't do any more dangerous stunts. I try but family comes first and sometimes that means breakin' a promise or two... or maybe bending it real far to breaking point just never breaking it.

Medicaid Mayhem: 'Don't F Around'

And it ain't just SALT causing problems. Some conservatives want even bigger cuts to Medicaid. Trump apparently told them 'Don’t f around with Medicaid.' Which is good. Family takes care of each other and that means makin' sure everyone has what they need. Sounds like the whole tax bill is one giant complicated family dinner. Everyone's got their own agenda their own history and their own way of doin' things. But at the end of the day it's all about family right? Even if family means political parties and tax deductions.
