A Game of Clones (and Algorithms)

My dragons may be gone but the game of thrones continues now in the realm of artificial intelligence! OpenAI much like the Iron Throne believes its grip on the AI world is absolute. But news reaches me that a certain Zhipu AI backed by Beijing is making 'notable progress.' 'Notable progress,' they say. I've heard that before usually right before someone tries to usurp my rightful claim. This Zhipu AI apparently one of China's 'AI tigers,' is nipping at OpenAI's heels threatening their precious 'innovation centers.'

Blood of the Dragon Code of the Algorithm

While the spotlight was on DeepSeek – the Rhaegar Targaryen of AI handsome and celebrated – it seems Zhipu AI the Viserys Targaryen – ambitious and tied to questionable allies – has been quietly building its power. OpenAI in its infinite wisdom suggests that Zhipu's expansion outside China and ties to Beijing deserve more scrutiny. More scrutiny you say? I'm starting to think they're as paranoid as Varys was with whispers in the dark. Still I cannot help but think 'When you play the game of AI you win or you die. There is no middle ground.'

Dracarys! (or Data carys?)

State backed investments worth over $1.4 billion fuel Zhipu AI's ambitions. Offices in the Middle East the United Kingdom Singapore and Malaysia? Innovation centers popping up across Southeast Asia? It seems Zhipu AI is aiming for nothing less than global domination one algorithm at a time. They might as well be riding dragons the way they're spreading their influence. It is said that these AI infrastructures may offer AI infrastructure solutions to governments around the world.

Digital Silk Road Algorithmic Ambitions

OpenAI fears Zhipu AI playing a key role in China's 'Digital Silk Road' strategy locking Chinese systems and standards into emerging markets. Their goal? To showcase a 'responsible transparent and audit ready' Chinese AI alternative. 'Responsible transparent?' I find that claim as believable as Littlefinger's honesty. But even if they believe they are just here to contribute China's AI power to the world these aims represent a threat to OpenAI's very existence.

Trump's Stargate: A Targaryen's Investment

Donald Trump a man with hair as questionable as Joffrey's parentage announced over $200 billion in commercial deals in the UAE including one for building a Stargate UAE AI campus by OpenAI Oracle Nvidia and Cisco Systems. A Stargate project you say? It would not be the first time that promises of power were built on nothing but the greed and corruption of men. But even still these are the building blocks that make up the future.

The Iron Throne of Algorithms

While OpenAI basks in Washington's support and a $200 million contract with the U.S. Defense Department Zhipu AI is reportedly aiding China's military modernization. Such aid landed them on the US Commerce Department's Entity List. But even so Zhipu AI is taking preliminary steps toward an IPO. I have no doubt that there will be an AI war in the future to come. The only question that remains is who will sit the Iron Throne of Algorithms in the end.
