The Economy Just Felt My Fist!
Hold on to your hats folks! Chuck Norris is here to break down the economy like I break down bad guys – swiftly and decisively. Word on the street (or you know the Bureau of Labor Statistics) is that wholesale prices took a nosedive in March. A 0.4% drop to be exact. That's like a ninja disappearing into the shadows but instead of a ninja it's… inflation. Economists predicted a rise but when Chuck Norris wants lower prices prices go lower. It's a universal constant.
PPI Took a Tumble!
The Producer Price Index (PPI) which is supposed to be a crystal ball for future inflation decided to go belly up. Down 0.4%. Even the core PPI stripped of food and energy took a hit. That's like trying to fight me without your arms and legs. Futile! Seems like the invisible hand of the market got a roundhouse kick from Chuck Norris. Remember when the PPI drops even the stock market does a little jig.
Gas Prices? More Like 'Gassed' Prices!
The biggest culprit? Gasoline prices! They plummeted 11.1%. Now I don't usually endorse lower gas prices (I prefer to fuel my vehicles with pure freedom) but even I can appreciate a good deal. But don't get too excited. Inflation like a persistent villain is still lurking above the Federal Reserve's 2% target. Headline PPI is at 2.7% and the index without food energy and trade services is even higher at 3.4%. Inflation fears are running wild!
Trump's Tariffs: A Trade War or a Trade Roundhouse Kick?
Enter Donald Trump and his tariffs. He slapped a 10% levy on *all* imports which is like Chuck Norris slapping an entire army with one hand. But then he backed off a bit initiating a 90 day negotiation period. Even Trump knows that messing with Chuck Norris's economy can be hazardous to your health. As they say when Chuck Norris enters a room even trade deficits hide under the bed.
CPI Eases! Is This Real Life?
Consumer prices are also cooling down with a 0.1% drop. The core reading is the lowest it's been in four years. Now normally I don't trust anything that sounds too good to be true but I'll allow it. Minneapolis Fed President Neel Kashkari seems cautiously optimistic but he also knows that in the face of Chuck Norris… I mean Trump's trade policy things can change faster than you can say 'roundhouse kick'.
