The Beautiful Game... of Travel!
Hey everyone it's your favourite footballer CR7 here! I've been dribbling around the globe my entire life scoring goals and seeing the world. But something's not quite right... it seems even travel is becoming a competition and the USA might be losing. *Siuuu!* Apparently some Canucks (that's Canadians for those not in the know) are saying 'Nao!' to American holidays. A chap named Robert Sharp was all set to party in Provincetown but then he thought 'Do I really want the stress?' Instead he's off to Montreal. Smart move eh? Maybe he heard about my abs and thought 'I need to work on mine first before hitting the beach!' It's all about self improvement people!
Tariffs? More Like Terrible iffs!
It's not just about avoiding a bit of stress though. This whole trade war thing is hitting hard. My sources (and by sources I mean the internet) tell me that foreign visitors to the U.S. are down. Way down! Like 10% by air alone! Even more if you count those sneaky land border crossings. And guess what? Oxford Economics says this could cost the U.S. a whopping $8.5 billion. That's a lot of zeros even for someone as rich as me. Maybe I should invest in Canadian maple syrup futures. *wink*
LGBTQ+ Travelers Score Elsewhere
Now here's where it gets personal. It seems my LGBTQ+ fans are looking for more welcoming fields to play on. A travel platform called misterb & b saw a big drop in bookings from Canadians and Europeans in the U.S. Meanwhile bookings are up in those 'blue' states. People are voting with their wallets or in this case their travel budgets. I always say 'Your love makes me stronger. Your hate makes me unstoppable.' But maybe some places are making it a little too easy to be 'unstoppable,' if you catch my drift. *smirks*
Taking a Stand One Vacation at a Time
Robert Sharp who runs Out Adventures isn't alone. Even groups like Egale Canada are boycotting U.S. events citing safety concerns and… *gasp*… 'economic warfare!' Apparently Trump's policies aren't exactly a warm welcome. Who knew? They're even putting warnings out for transgender travellers. It's like 'Here's your passport and here's a map of potential minefields!' *rolls eyes*
The Rainbow Dollar's Power Play
Let's talk numbers. The LGBTQ+ consumer market is HUGE! Like $1.4 trillion huge! And they're spending that money on travel. So when they decide to take their rainbow dollars elsewhere it stings. Hoteliers airlines restaurants even barber shops feel the pinch. It's a classic case of 'Show me the money!' But in this case the money's saying 'Adios amigos!' or better yet 'Au revoir!' or 'Auf Wiedersehen!'
Pride Still Roars!
But hey it's not all doom and gloom! Pride celebrations are still going strong. NYC Pride expects a massive turnout and cities like Phoenix and Salt Lake City are seeing even bigger crowds. It seems like people are finding community wherever they can even if it's just for a weekend. As I always say 'Talent without working hard is nothing.' And these communities are working hard to create safe spaces and thats a win in my books. *Siuuu!*
