Another Day Another Tech Revolution...
Hey Binary Breathers! Carol Danvers here reporting from... well not space this time but the tech choked Earth specifically the San Francisco Bay Area. Word on the street (or should I say the data stream) is that Waymo Alphabet's robotaxi division just got the green light to spread its metallic wings down to San Jose and the South Bay. Looks like even the Capital of Silicon Valley is about to get a taste of the future. And you know what I say if there is a future I want to be part of it! As long as no Ultron esque shenanigans break out we should be good.
CPUC Says 'Yes' Drivers Say '...Maybe?'
Apparently Waymo filed some kind of 'passenger safety plan' with the California Public Utilities Commission. Sounds about as exciting as reading the instruction manual for a Skrull detector but hey safety first! And it worked! The CPUC gave it the thumbs up paving the way for Waymo to boldly go where no human driver has gone before (without getting stuck in traffic at least). I mean they are calling it 'fully autonomous commercial ride hailing service' which is a mouthful but is what it is.
San Jose Welcomes Our Robot Overlords (Maybe)
San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan seems pretty stoked about the whole thing. He even said Waymo embodies the 'spirit of innovation.' I guess that's one way to put it. I mean 'I can do this all day' but I prefer a copilot myself. Remember what happened with that rogue AI on Knowhere? I'm just saying keep an eye on those algorithms folks. It is good to see enthusiasm though.
250,000 Rides a Week?! What In The Name Of The Supreme Intelligence?!
I almost choked on my space rations (okay it was a protein bar but close enough) when I heard Waymo is already dishing out over 250,000 paid robotaxi rides a week! That's a lot of trusting humans putting their lives in the hands of circuits and sensors. And the even crazier part? Word on the street is that Waymo and Toyota are exploring a partnership to bring this tech to *personally owned* vehicles. I guess everyone wants to be their own completely hands off super speedy super safe driver these days!
DMV's New Rules: Buckle Up It's Gonna Be a Regulatory Ride
Of course all this expansion means the California Department of Motor Vehicles is scrambling to figure out how to regulate these self driving contraptions. New rules for testing and deployment? Sounds like a bureaucratic black hole waiting to happen. But hey someone's gotta make sure these things don't start developing a Skrull like urge to replace us all.
Stay Vigilant Earthlings!
Look I'm all for progress but let's not get so caught up in the shiny new tech that we forget to ask the important questions. Who's liable when a robotaxi rear ends a Kree battlecruiser? (Okay maybe not that last one.) But seriously let's keep a watchful eye on this driverless future. And if you see anything suspicious call Captain Marvel. I'll be ready... as soon as I figure out how to hail a robotaxi.

I wonder how this will affect taxi and Uber drivers?
