Why is the Rum Gone? Oh Wait It's the US Trade!
Savvy? It appears the ol' US and China are having a bit of a tiff a trade war they call it. More like a trade squabble if you ask Captain Jack Sparrow! But it seems these Chinese exporters are more inclined to 'part like sea foam,' as they say than to keep battling the kraken. A recent survey conducted by Allianz Trade (fancy name I must say) suggests that 95% of Chinese exporters are thinking of going their own way! 'Not all treasure is silver and gold mate,' but a stable market is certainly something to be reckoned with!
Decoupling? Sounds Like a Shipwreck to Me!
This 'decoupling' business it's like watching two ships sail away from each other. One the good ol' US of A and the other the dragon like China. These exporters are looking elsewhere and those American firms are scrambling to move their production faster than I can pilfer a bottle of rum! It's all a bit topsy turvy innit? As I always say 'The problem is not the problem. The problem is your attitude about the problem.'
Tariffs? More Like Terrible Fares!
Double digit tariffs! Why that's highway robbery! Even with a temporary reduction (a 'grace period,' they call it) those tariffs are still higher than a pirate's stack of treasure before I get my hands on it. This is causing quite the kerfuffle I tell you with exporters rushing to front load orders. 'Why is the rum always gone?' Because they're shipping it all to America before the tariffs hit again! A clever move I must admit.
Ningbo's Ningy ing Away to Southeast Asia!
Ah Ningbo a coastal city with a grand port! According to some fellow named Tianchen Xu these exporters are setting their sights on Southeast Asia. Indonesia specifically. Vietnam maybe but those rising costs are giving them the jitters. It's like choosing between a siren's song and a safe harbor isn't it? Sometimes you have to weigh your options more carefully than you'd weigh a chest full of gold. Or at least that's what I'd tell someone who's naive enough to believe I'm not going to steal it.
Deals and No Deals: A Pirate's Dilemma!
The US has struck deals with China and the UK but talks with others seem to be stuck in the mud like my ship in a shallow harbor. And this Allianz Trade mob are predicting a $305 billion loss to global exports. That's a lot of rum and a lot of treasure to be missed out on! "This is the day you will always remember as the day that you almost caught Captain Jack Sparrow!" But not quite eh?
33 Trillion? Now That's a Treasure Worth Plundering!
Global trade hit a record $33 trillion last year! Savvy? That's enough to buy every pirate in the Caribbean a lifetime supply of rum! But with these trade wars and shifting alliances who knows what the future holds? As I always say "The seas may be rough but I am the Captain!" (Of this news report at least until someone offers me a better deal.)
