Relativity… of Taxation
My dear colleagues I have been observing this "big beautiful bill" as you call it and I must say it's quite the spectacle! It seems everyone wants a piece of the pie but as I once said "The hardest thing in the world to understand is the income tax." And this bill? It is making my brain feel like it is traveling at the speed of light away from me but the speed of light is constant. You can imagine my confusion.
Campaign Promises and Tax Cuts: A Beautiful Mind or a Black Hole?
Ah campaign promises. As predictable as the rising sun yet as complex as quantum entanglement. Extending the 2017 tax cuts you say? It reminds me of trying to catch a photon – you can observe its effect but good luck pinning it down. These lower income tax brackets and bigger child tax credits… are we simplifying the universe or just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic? I am not so sure that the tax payer will be able to benefit from this in the long run. If you can't explain it simply you don't understand it well enough!
The Curious Case of the "Revenge Tax"
A "revenge tax," you say? It seems we are entering a realm of fiscal retribution. Apparently Wall Street was in distress over the possible implications of this tax. I always find it humorous when money worries about money. As I always say “Try not to become a man of success but rather try to become a man of value.” Perhaps we should be focusing on value and not vengeance.
"SALT" Shakers: A Pinch of Deduction a Dash of Chaos
Ah the state and local tax deduction or "SALT" as you call it. A $10,000 cap now potentially soaring to $40,000! It seems blue states are finally getting a taste of fiscal relief. But alas loopholes persist for the wealthiest among us. As I once pondered "The world as we have created it is a process of our thinking. It cannot be changed without changing our thinking.” Perhaps our thinking on taxes needs a bit of…relativity.
Medicaid Cuts: A Bitter Pill to Swallow
Medicaid cuts my dear friends? Reducing healthcare for the low income and disabled? It is as absurd as expecting gravity to work only on Tuesdays. It seems we are trading human well being for fiscal…whatever. “The value of a man should be seen in what he gives and not in what he is able to receive.” Perhaps we should be giving a bit more thought to those who need it most.
Whale Hunting and Electric Cars: The Quirks of Legislation
Whale hunting expenses now more deductible? Electric car tax credits vanishing? It appears we are in a world where priorities are as unpredictable as the trajectory of a Higgs boson. “Only two things are infinite the universe and human stupidity and I'm not sure about the former.” But this is politics where anything is possible even the ridiculous. So I must say let us hope that in all this complexity we remember the people that we represent.
