Faster Than a Speeding Scam!

Greetings citizens of Earth! It's your friendly neighborhood Superman here reporting live from... well everywhere! I can see a lot from up here and lately I've been noticing a disturbing trend: villains! Not the kind who shoot lasers (though there's plenty of that too!) but the kind who hide behind screens and steal your hard earned cash! It seems a coalition of 42 (count 'em!) state attorneys general led by New York's own Letitia James is calling out Meta the company behind Facebook for letting investment scams run rampant like a runaway train or should I say runaway metaverse!

Up Up and... Away With Your Savings!

These scams are sneaky even for me! They use the images of respected figures like Warren Buffett and Elon Musk – folks who last I checked were busy enough running the world without also endorsing get rich quick schemes on Facebook. These false ads lure unsuspecting investors into WhatsApp groups where they’re promptly fleeced in 'pump and dump' schemes. Lex Luthor couldn't have designed a more devious trap! Remember folks "There is a right and a wrong in the universe and the distinction is not hard to make."

Meta in the Crosshairs! It's a Bird It's a Plane It's... A Lawsuit?

Attorney General James isn't holding back! She says these scams persist even after being reported suggesting Meta's current defenses are about as effective as a rubber bullet against Doomsday! She described it as Meta being a 'cornerstone of the internet fraud economy.' And it's not just here; an Australian billionaire is also suing Meta claiming their AI powered ad system amplified fake ads using his image. I fought Brainiac; dealing with rogue AI seems like a Tuesday for me but for everyday citizens? It is very concerning!

A Fortress of Solitude But For Your Finances!

James stated that "Thousands of Facebook users have lost hundreds of millions of dollars to these scams and Meta must do more to stop these fraudulent ads from running on its platforms". The attorneys general are urging Meta to beef up its policing of ads maybe even hire a few super powered consultants (hint hint!). They suggest more human review which sounds wise. As I always said "Dreams save us. Dreams lift us up and transform us." But nightmares steal your bank balance!

More Human Review? Thank Goodness!

They're also throwing down the gauntlet: curb the scams or stop running investment ads altogether! Joining New York in this fight are states like California Connecticut Georgia Massachusetts Michigan New Jersey and Pennsylvania. A regular Justice League of Attorneys General! Seems even they know that "Truth justice and the American way" includes protecting people from getting swindled online.

Stay Vigilant Metropolis (and Everywhere Else)!

So heed my warning dear readers! Be extra careful before investing in anything you see advertised on social media. If an offer sounds too good to be true it probably is. And if you see Warren Buffett or Elon Musk promising to double your money overnight on WhatsApp... well let's just say I'd rather trust Lex Luthor with the keys to the Fortress of Solitude! Keep your eyes on the skies... and your hand on your wallet! This is Superman signing off! Remember "There is a superhero in all of us we just need the courage to put on the cape."
