Why Fly When You Can Rail Savvy?

Blast these blasted contraptions of the skyways! Seems folks are finally wising up aye? 'Adventures By Train,' they call themselves. Bold name I'll grant 'em that. They're offering a 100 day jaunt around the world by rail! Imagine 100 days! More than I've spent sober in... well let's just say a very long time. First departure they say is March 17 2026. Mark your calendars or better yet find someone else to mark them for you. I'd trust a monkey with a compass before I trust myself with dates. 'Why the rum gone?' is a far easier question to answer savvy?

Greener Than a Pirate's Parrot!

This 'Jim Louth' fellow director of this 'Adventures by Train' business spouts about carbon footprints and such. Blimey next they'll be telling me to recycle my grog bottles! But I suppose he has a point. Trains are dare I say it *slightly* less polluting than those metal birds. A greener way to see the world he claims. More time to appreciate the scenery I wager. More time to swindle a local out of a bottle of rum? Perhaps. It all depends on your perspective doesn't it?

Intimate? Or Just Plain Exclusive?

Only 12 souls get to embark on this land locked odyssey. Twelve! Less than my usual crew on the *Black Pearl* (give or take a few that went missing at Tortuga). And the cost? A king's ransom! £112,900 or some $146,184 of your landlubber dollars. Pricey even for *me* and I once paid three goats for a map to the Fountain of Youth. Though bring a partner and they’ll knock off a bit… which sounds suspiciously like a deal with the Devil if you ask me! Supposedly this keeps the experience 'intimate.' I call it 'exclusive.' But then what do I know? I'm just a pirate.

Authentic or Luxurious? Why Not Both?

Apparently this journey is a mix of 'authentic' and 'luxurious'. Like mixing rum with... well *more* rum! Some legs of the trip are down to earth others are dripping in opulence. Laundry service is included $100 per person which is a relief. I've known shirts to walk off on their own after a few days at sea. They even recommend fitting your bags in overhead compartments! As if I carry luggage. I prefer to travel light with only a bottle of rum a trusty sword and a healthy dose of cunning. A dedicated tour leader will be your guide which means one more person to outsmart should the need arise.

From London to... Everywhere!

The adventure begins and ends in London they say. Hmm London. Haven't been there in ages. Probably still wanted for something or other. This journey spans 14 countries! France Austria Switzerland... sounds like a fancy cheese plate! China Japan Canada the U.S... it's a veritable buffet of cultures and opportunities for... *ahem*... cultural exchange. They plan to mingle with locals sample local foods and see the country up close. All from the train window of course. Less chance of getting sea legs but a higher chance of train legs. Trust me they're just as bad.

High Seas and High Speed Rails!

The itinerary includes everything from the Swiss Alps to China's high speed rail. A North Pacific Passage Luxury Cruise is involved as well as a jaunt on the Queen Mary 2. Sea crossings from Azerbaijan to Kazakhstan Shanghai to Osaka... Honestly it sounds exhausting! But then I've never been one to shy away from a challenge... especially if that challenge involves treasure. And let's not forget the hotel stays! Fairmont Peace Hotel Shangri La The Langham... They spared no expense! But where's the fun in a soft bed when you could be sleeping under the stars listening to the waves crash and wondering if that shadow in the dark is a Kraken or just a particularly large seagull?

Sustainable travel? Is that anything like sustainable rum consumption?
