Vegas Baby! (And Bitcoin Too!)
Okay so picture this: Vegas bright lights and…Bitcoin? Apparently Jack Dorsey's latest vision involves paying for merch with crypto and I'm here for the plot twists! Square is piloting real time Bitcoin payments at a pop up store inside The Venetian for Bitcoin 2025. Who knew you could buy a t shirt with the same stuff people use to like buy yachts? It's all very 'Love Story' meets 'Blank Space' – a mix of classic appeal and futuristic wildness.
Lightning Strikes (But It's a Good Thing!)
They're using something called the Lightning Network which sounds like a superhero's power but it's just a faster cheaper way to process transactions. When you scan a QR code (which let's be real is still kinda sci fi to me) Square handles the exchange rates and confirmations behind the scenes. It's like having a 'Style' upgrade for your wallet. They're calling it Block’s most ambitious move yet to make bitcoin 'everyday money'. I mean if I can pay for a coffee with crypto maybe I can start accepting it for my next album... Just kidding... unless?
Miles to Go Before We Sleep... On Bitcoin?
Behind this whole operation is Miles Suter who sounds like a tech wizard. Apparently back in 2017 Cash App's Bitcoin integration was just a 'hackweek experiment.' Flash forward and now he’s helping 'connect the Blocks' across Cash App Spiral Bitkey and Square. It’s all about embedding Bitcoin into every layer of the company's ecosystem. He joined the company in 2017 when Cash App's bitcoin integration was still a hackweek experiment. "They needed someone with deep familiarity with bitcoin and the community," he said calling himself "an early evangelist."
2026: A Bitcoin Odyssey?
Block plans to offer Bitcoin payments to eligible Square sellers later this year but full availability is targeted for 2026. That feels like an eternity in Swiftie time! It all hinges on regulatory approval which sounds about as fun as untangling Christmas lights. Meanwhile Bitcoin is trading near all time highs but the narrative is more 'digital gold' than 'everyday spending.' So are we saving it or spending it? I’m getting 'Bad Blood' vibes from all this financial jargon but hey at least someone's trying to shake things up.
Decentralized Dreams and Permissionless Pursuits
Block is betting big on Bitcoin as the future of the internet's currency. Suter believes a decentralized permissionless currency is critical. It's all very 'Mean' but with a futuristic financial twist. They're going against the grain while others focus on stablecoins and tokenized dollars. Block believes Bitcoin is still the best candidate to fill that role. "When Cash App first introduced bitcoin trading he said it was met with hesitation and doubt. 'But again somebody's got to be first,' he said. 'And we feel like we have the right DNA to push things forward.'"
Bitcoin for the Little Guy (And Maybe a Big Pop Star?)
While others are talking about corporate Bitcoin strategies Block is focusing on the 'little guy' – small and medium sized merchants. Just like I want my music accessible to everyone Block wants Bitcoin to be usable by everyone. They've even got a 'Bitcoin Conversions' tool that lets merchants automatically convert a portion of their daily sales into Bitcoin. And apparently those who opted in have seen their Bitcoin holdings grow by about 70%! Maybe I should start converting my Eras Tour profits... just kidding (again!). But honestly making Bitcoin accessible for all feels very 'Shake It Off' – a way to brush off the old and embrace the new.

I prefer paying with friendship bracelets. Much more personal.
