Another Day Another Crisis
Well darling it seems the price of black gold is feeling a bit queasy. Down about 2% if you must know. The usual suspects are at play of course. A dash of Middle East tension a hint of impending doom and voilà the markets are in a tizzy. As if I don't have enough on my plate dodging bullets and charming villains now I have to keep an eye on Brent Crude. It's a dangerous world wouldn't you agree?
WTI Takes a Tumble
West Texas Intermediate or WTI as the Americans call it took a tumble – down $1.38 to $66.77 a barrel. Rather pedestrian if you ask me. I've seen bigger plunges from ski slopes in the Swiss Alps. Still it's enough to make the oil tycoons sweat into their Cuban cigars.
Brent's Brush with Disaster
Global benchmark Brent isn't faring much better losing $1.35 to settle at $68.42 per barrel. Clearly the price of fuel is feeling the heat much like a martini left out in the sun. And we all know how disastrous that can be.
Israel's Lone Wolf Gambit?
Now for the real kicker. Rumour has it Israel is considering a bit of solo action against Iran. A "licence to kill" if you will without Uncle Sam's blessing. Five sources supposedly 'in the know' spilled the beans to NBC. Frankly I've had more reliable intel from a barmaid in Monte Carlo but one can't dismiss it outright. This could get messy. Very messy indeed.
Embassy Evacuation Shenanigans
Of course the Americans are already playing their part in the drama evacuating non essential staff from the Baghdad embassy. Always a good sign that. It's like waving a red flag at a bull... or in this case a barrel of oil. Naturally prices spiked over 4% on that little tidbit. As they say 'Once is happenstance. Twice is coincidence. Three times is enemy action'. Perhaps someone is playing games? I would know...
Stay Tuned Darlings
So there you have it. Oil prices on the ropes geopolitical tensions simmering like a shaken martini and yours truly trying to make sense of it all. 'The world is not enough,' as they say but one must try mustn't one? Stay tuned darlings. This is a developing story and I suspect things are about to get a lot more interesting. After all 'Nobody does it better' than me. Especially when it comes to sniffing out trouble.
