By the Power of Bureaucracy!
Alright space cadets listen up! Your friendly neighborhood Captain Marvel here reporting live from... well not space this time. Turns out Earth's economy needed a boost and guess who answered the call? No not the Avengers (we were busy with a Kree situation naturally). It was *government jobs*! I know I know sounds about as exciting as a senate hearing on intergalactic trade but hear me out. These guys added 73,000 jobs in June which is like half of all new jobs. As I always say "Higher further faster!"... even if it applies to paperwork this time.
School's Out (But Jobs Are In!)
Turns out most of the hiring happened in education. Yep teachers and administrators are the real MVPs. State governments hired 47,000 folks while local governments chipped in with 33,000. Meanwhile the feds decided to take a nap cutting 7,000 jobs. Don't get me wrong streamlining is good but maybe they should’ve consulted with me before making cuts. I know a thing or two about strategic advantages like the time I outsmarted Ronan the Accuser with a well placed photon blast... and a killer negotiation strategy. Speaking of Bankrate's Mark Hamrick is saying that these state and local governments won't be able to keep up this pace forever. I'll believe it when I see it. Never tell me the odds!
Health Social Assistance and the Pursuit of Happiness
Now it wasn't just the government pulling its weight. Health care and social assistance added over 58,000 positions which combined with government jobs makes up nearly 9 out of 10 new jobs. So to all the doctors nurses and social workers out there give yourselves a pat on the back. You're not just saving lives you're saving the economy. Keep it up. Remember what Dr. Wendy Lawson told me once “Sometimes the answers you’re looking for are right in front of you.” Apparently the answers were jobs.
Leisure and Construction: Building a Better Tomorrow (Literally!)
Leisure hospitality and construction are also expanding. Nothing wrong with good old fashioned building and having fun. Though if I'm honest I'm more used to tearing things down and then rebuilding them. That being said its good to see people employed. It really does make one think of a quote from the great Talos of the Skrulls when he said and I quote 'There's no place like home' and a strong economy helps people achieve that goal of living in a comfortable place.
The Dark Side: Job Losses Strike Back!
Okay not all sunshine and rainbows. Professional and business services manufacturing and wholesale trade each lost about 7,000 jobs. Seems like some sectors are still struggling. Maybe they need a Captain Marvel intervention. I could fly in give a motivational speech and blast some productivity into them. I mean what's the worst that could happen?
Final Thoughts: Earth is Still in the Fight
So there you have it folks. The economy is still a bit of a rollercoaster but with government jobs healthcare and a bit of elbow grease we're keeping it in the fight. Just remember even when things look grim there's always a way to "Higher further faster!" ...even if it means filling out some extra paperwork. Captain Marvel out!
