I Have Spoken: The Numbers Are In
Alright Mando here. Just got back from a long hyperspace jump and what do I find? Everyone’s talking about Airbnb's numbers. Seems like they’ve been wrestling with some krayt dragons of their own. First quarter they scraped by more or less. Earnings per share? Twenty four credits just like everyone expected. Revenue? Two point twenty seven billion. Barely beat the estimates like dodging a thermal detonator at the last second. But here's where things get interesting.
Credits Don't Grow on Trees (or Beskar)
The big problem is their revenue forecast for the current period. They're saying somewhere between two point ninety nine and three point oh five billion. Analysts were hoping for three point oh four billion. Now I’m no accountant but even I know that’s like trying to pay off a bounty hunter with fool's gold. Shares took a dive about three percent. Not exactly a Sarlacc pit but enough to make investors nervous. And nervous investors make for poor tippers at the cantina.
Easter's Got Nothing To Do With This
They’re trying to blame it on “broader economic uncertainties” and “softer results” in the U.S. and are saying Easter gave them a little boost. Sounds like a lot of bantha fodder to me. Blaming outside forces? That’s what Jawas do when they try to sell you a broken droid. The real story I suspect is people are getting tired of paying cleaning fees that cost more than a month’s worth of spotchka.
North America's Troubles
Apparently travel from Canada to the U.S. is down. Maybe they finally realized that paying exorbitant prices for lukewarm poutine isn't worth the trip? Who knows. All I know is that even with "strong year over year growth in North America," they reported "softness". Its like saying 'I can bring you in warm or I can bring you in cold' but then you find out that you aren't being brought in at all.
Tariffs Are the Real Enemy (Besides Mandalorians)
Everyone’s pointing fingers at tariffs and wondering if those are hitting consumer spending. It's the way of things. Find the thing that looks the most like the problem and shoot it. But it's always something else. Gross booking value? Up seven percent to twenty four point five billion. Nights and experiences booked? Up eight percent to one hundred and forty three point one million though that's under what they thought it would be. Numbers don't lie... but they can be misleading. This is the Way.
Beyond Places to Stay? I'll Believe It When I See It
Airbnb is teasing new updates to their app going “beyond places to stay.” Sounds ambitious. Like trying to teach a tooka to fly a starfighter. They also claim to have removed four hundred and fifty thousand listings because of their host quality system. Good riddance. Less dodgy lodgings more peace of mind. Maybe they’re finally listening to the users. Or maybe they just want to sell more upgrades. Either way I’ll keep my eyes peeled. This is the way... to potentially throwing away money.

They need to get rid of those dodgy listings faster!
