May the Odds Be Ever in Netflix's Favor!
Well isn't this rich? Turns out while everyone else is scavenging for scraps in this economic arena Netflix is feasting like they just won the Games. Their stock's been on a winning streak for eleven days straight. Eleven days! That's longer than I lasted in some of those nightmares they called 'Hunger Games.' And to think all it took was ditching the whole 'telling people how many of us are actually watching' thing. Smart move Netflix. Very smart. Like Peeta level smart.
Traditional Media: May the Seam Be With You
Meanwhile the old guard is crumbling faster than a stale hardtack. Warner Bros. and Disney are taking a beating worse than Gale after... well you know. Seems President Trump's trade wars are good for something and that something is making everyone realize they'd rather watch reruns of *The Capitol News Hour* (I made that up) than whatever Disney is peddling these days. Honestly who needs Mickey Mouse when you've got…*checks notes*…*Squid Game*? Is that still a thing?
Netflix: The Girl on Fire…of Revenue!
Revenue's up 13% subscriptions are up advertising dollars are up. Seems Netflix is the only one who figured out how to play this game. They're forecasting billions in revenue. Billions! I can barely count the number of squirrels I've snared in a week let alone count that many dollars. Maybe I should invest. Then again knowing my luck the Capitol will probably find a way to tax it into oblivion.
Tariffs? What Tariffs? Netflix Laughs in Capitol!
President Trump's tariffs and trade war? Apparently Netflix is immune. Co CEO Greg Peters (whoever he is probably some fancy pants Capitol type) says they're not seeing any impact. “Based on what we are seeing by actually operating the business right now there’s nothing really significant to note.” He even had the nerve to say entertainment is "pretty resilient" in tough times. Well yeah people need distractions when the world's going to pot. Give them bread and circuses… or just *Stranger Things*. Same difference really.
The Price of Admission: Are We All Tributes?
Okay here's the rub. Netflix hiked its prices. Again. Now if you want the 'good stuff' you're shelling out nearly $25 a month. That's more than I used to earn in a week selling strawberries to the Peacekeepers! They're banking on us being hooked on needing our daily dose of digital escapism. And maybe they're right. We're all tributes now just paying for the privilege of watching someone else's Games.
The Unseen Rebellion: Will Subscribers Rise Up?
But here's the kicker: they stopped telling us how many subscribers they have. Suddenly it's all about the money. Are people actually signing up or are they just squeezing every last drop out of the existing crowd before the whole thing implodes? I guess we'll never know. Just like we never knew what President Snow was *really* thinking. Maybe that's the point. Keep us in the dark keep us entertained and keep the money flowing. Sounds like a Capitol strategy to me. Still Netflix will need more than a mockingjay to stay on top hopefully they learned a thing or two from my mistakes back then.
