Family First... But Business is Business
Family that's what matters. But let's talk about something else that kinda matters money. I saw this story about GM pumpin' the brakes on their BrightDrop electric van production. They're shut down the CAMI plant in Canada for a while layin' off 500 people. Now I ain't no corporate suit but even I know that ain't good. This is like takin' the NOS outta your ride before the finish line! It doesn't matter if you win by an inch or a mile. Winning's winning. And right now GM ain't winning.
Market Demand? More Like Market Disaster!
GM claims it's all about 'market demand' and 're balancing inventory.' Sounds like a bunch of fancy words for 'we didn't sell enough.' They were expecting a billion in revenue from BrightDrop in 2023. A BILLION! Turns out they barely moved 2,000 vans. That's like showin' up to a race with a lawnmower. You might have the heart but you ain't gonna win. You know what they say 'Ask any racer any *real* racer. It doesn't matter if you win by an inch or a mile. Winning's winning.' But what about when there are no racers racing?
The Trump Card... Or Is It?
The head of the Canadian auto union Lana Payne is pointin' fingers at Trump's tariffs and EV skepticism. Says it's creatin' 'industry turmoil' and openin' the door for China to take over the EV market. Now I ain't gettin' into politics but I know one thing: family sticks together. Canada and the US are like family whether we like it or not. We gotta look out for each other not tear each other down with tariffs and trade wars. I live my life a quarter mile at a time. Nothing else matters: not the mortgage not the store not my team and all their bullshit. For those ten seconds or so I'm free. So make a decision already.
2026: Hope on the Horizon... or Just Another Mirage?
Unifor says GM is still committed to the CAMI plant and is plannin' upgrades for the 2026 model year. That's all fine and dandy but what about the 500 people who are losin' their jobs *now*? Hope is good but a job is better. Remember I’m one of those drivers. I live my life a quarter mile at a time. Nothing else matters.
Storage Lot Blues: A Graveyard of Electric Dreams
To make matters worse there's a report of hundreds of BrightDrop vans sittin' in a storage lot in Flint Michigan. That's like seein' your dream car sittin' in a junkyard. Sad man. Just sad. It's not what you drive it's how you drive it. But what happens when what you drive ends up in the graveyard?
Family Jobs and Electric Dreams: The Road Ahead
Look I'm not sayin' the EV dream is dead. But GM needs to get their act together. They need to focus on buildin' quality vehicles that people actually want to buy. They need to support their workers and their communities. And they need to remember what's really important: family. 'You break her heart I break your neck,' I told Letty's ex. The same applies to GM. You break the hearts of your workers I'll break your… well you get the idea. You never turn your back on family... even when they break down on the side of the road.
