Why is the Rum Always Gone? Oh Wait It's the Annual Fee!
Blimey! JPMorgan Chase that kraken of a bank is at it again! They're raisin' the Jolly Roger or rather the annual fee for their Sapphire Reserve card to a whopping $795! That's a 45% jump me hearties! You'd think they were plunderin' a Spanish galleon not just sendin' out a bill. But fear not savvy spenders for there's a catch... a treasure chest of perks they say worth over $2,700. 'Why is the rum always gone?' Because it's bein' used to fuel this financial buccaneering savvy?
More Bling for Your Buck: Doubloons in the Digital Age
These landlubbers are tryin' to lure us in with shiny baubles like doubling the value of points for travel offers and a $500 credit at fancy hotels and resorts. Aye and a $300 dining credit at some Exclusive Tables network which sounds suspiciously like a secret pirate hideout for foodies. They're even throwin' in subscriptions to Apple TV+ and Apple Music. It's enough to make a pirate forget about gold... almost.
High Rollers and Frequent Flyers: A Pirate's Life for Me (and You?)
Now if you're spendin' more than a pirate's ransom – a measly $75,000 a year – you get even MORE! Top tier status at Southwest Airlines and IHG Hotels they say. As if a pirate needs a hotel when he has the open sea! They've even got a Sapphire Reserve business card for those of you runnin' your own shall we say 'enterprises.' Sounds like they're tryin' to out fancy American Express. 'This is the day you will always remember as the day you almost caught Captain Jack Sparrow!'...spending too much money.
Stealing from Amex: Imitation the Sincerest Form of Plunder
JPMorgan in their infinite 'wisdom,' copied Amex's playbook by offerin' travel and dining perks. They even opened fancy airport lounges. But their initial offers were so good it was practically daylight robbery! Now they're chargin' a king's ransom and some say they're alienatin' customers. Are they chasin' away the middle class with these high fees? Maybe they want to be exclusive like a hidden island only the wealthiest pirates can find.
Too Much of a Good Thing? Overcrowded Lounges and Empty Pockets
The whispers on the docks are that some folks are downgradin' or sailin' to other credit card ships. Seems these fancy airport lounges are gettin' crowded and some folks think their premium cards ain't so special anymore. Will these new perks be enough to justify the $795? Only time will tell savvy? But remember 'Not all treasure is silver and gold mate.' Sometimes it's a good credit card deal... maybe.
The Subscription Sea: Will You Stay Aboard?
Amex is likely to raise its fees too. It's a subscription model they say where the perks keep gettin' better to keep you spendin'. Even at $800 they reckon they offer a breadth of perks nobody else can match. So are you ready to sign up for another year on this pirate ship or will you jump ship to a smaller vessel? Remember mate 'The problem is not the problem. The problem is your attitude about the problem.' And right now the problem is this confounded annual fee!'
