A License to Thrill... or Just Build More Cars?
Well well well what do we have here? Seems Nissan's new head honcho in the Americas a certain Christian Meunier is feeling the heat or should I say the tariff. Apparently these levies are turning up the pressure on Nissan's plans for domestic production. As I always say 'Never say never again,' especially when it comes to dodging taxes eh? This push to 'max out' production is quite the gamble but 'the name's Bond James Bond,' and I've seen riskier plays at the baccarat table.
Smyrna: The Name is Powerhouse Automotive Powerhouse
Meunier's ultimate goal? To transform Nissan's Smyrna facility into a veritable powerhouse. Think Blofeld's volcano lair but instead of SPECTRE operatives you've got assembly lines churning out vehicles. 'We have big facilities big capacities,' he boasts. Sounds like someone's been taking notes from Goldfinger. This Tennessee plant can pump out 640,000 vehicles a year. Enough to make even Q Branch envious with all that metal moving around.
No Time to Die... But Plenty of Time to Re tool?
Of course such a transformation won't happen overnight. 'It cannot happen overnight,' Meunier admits. Right now the Smyrna plant makes the Nissan Rogue (their top seller in the U.S.). But with a potential Infiniti model and hybrid production on the horizon things are about to get interesting. It seems 'the world is not enough' for Nissan's production ambitions.
From Mexico with a Side of Tariffs
Nissan currently imports vehicles from Mexico. These tariffs put a crimp in that plan. But Nissan is also considering increasing domestic content. As I've always suspected sometimes the best solutions are found closer to home. Remember 'live and let die,' but also 'build and let thrive.'
Pray for Compromise
Meunier is hoping for a compromise on tariffs understanding the heavy burden these impositions represent. 'Hopefully there will be solutions that don't hurt completely to a full extent at 25% because that's a lot,' he commented. Nissan has lowered pricing of the Rogue and Pathfinder by between $640 and nearly $2,000 in response to the tariffs. Talk about a price to pay!
Turning the Tide... or Just Turning a Profit?
Despite some recent stumbles Meunier remains optimistic. 'We're gonna turn it around despite the tariff,' he declares. It sounds like someone's ready to face off against a supervillain or at least a trade war. Nissan's got new products in the pipeline and is working to right the ship. Whether or not they succeed only time will tell. 'The name's Bond James Bond.' Always remember: the world is not enough!
