A Moment of Silence

My dearest readers it is with a heavy heart heavier than a cauldron full of treacle pudding after a Quidditch victory feast that I address you today. News has reached even the hallowed halls of Hogwarts of a most unfortunate incident. An Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner a vessel of dreams turned into a harbinger of sorrow has crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad. The loss of life is staggering—at least 241 souls gone in the blink of an eye. As I always say "to the well organized mind death is but the next great adventure." but my heart goes out to all those impacted.

The Unfolding Tragedy

The aircraft bound for London Gatwick met with disaster a mere minute after leaving the ground. One sole survivor has been found amidst the wreckage and my thoughts are with them hoping for their swift recovery. Social media bears witness to the grim spectacle—a descending jetliner a burst of flame a plume of smoke. It's a scene no one should ever have to witness. We must remember as I told Harry once “It is our choices that show what we truly are far more than our abilities.” now it is time for our choices to support those who need it.

The Tally of Souls

On board were 230 passengers and 12 crew members each with their own story their own dreams now tragically cut short. And even more tragically others on the ground were also caught in this catastrophe. The loss of approximately 294 lives including those of students is a stark reminder of the fragility of life. The plane was more than 11 years old. Let's hope with some time turner magic that we can go back and change this. Alas! I am too old to do this.

The cause of this calamity remains shrouded in mystery. Initial data suggests a rapid descent after reaching a mere 625 feet. Why? What went wrong? These are questions that demand answers. An investigation led by Indian authorities and supported by international experts is underway. The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board will be sending a team. I wish I could wave my wand and reveal the truth but alas some mysteries require more than magic. Sometimes “we must all face the choice between what is right and what is easy.” and in this situation that choice is to find the truth!

Industry Response and Reflection

The aviation industry is reeling. Boeing's CEO Kelly Ortberg has expressed his condolences and offered full support for the investigation. He and Stephanie Pope are foregoing the Paris Air Show a decision I commend. It is a time for somber reflection not celebratory announcements. Flights were temporarily suspended and resumed at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport with aviation minister’s promise Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu that a thorough investigation will be conducted. We must remember “it takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies but just as much to stand up to our friends.” Now it is time for the industry to work together and figure out what happened.

A Dark Cloud over the Paris Air Show

The timing of this tragedy could not be worse occurring just before the Paris Air Show. Boeing and Airbus were poised to unveil new aircraft orders but now a dark cloud hangs over the event. Boeing shares have understandably plummeted. Let us hope that from this darkness light will emerge and that lessons will be learned to prevent such tragedies from ever happening again. For as I have often said "Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times if one only remembers to turn on the light."
