From NBA Courts to Mongolian Steppes: My Take
Alright alright settle down! I'm here to talk about something other than fadeaway jumpers and six championships. Turns out Mongolia's aiming for a title run of their own – a tourism title that is! They're talkin' 'bout attracting 2 million tourists by 2030. That's like trying to score 40 points a game – ambitious but not impossible. You gotta have the drive the skills and most importantly a plan! And you know what? They are thinking about it. I have always said to be successful planning is critical!
Show Me the Money: GDP Dreams
Their Tourism Minister Nomin Chinbat says this could pump around $4 billion into their GDP. Now I know a thing or two about making money. Back in my playing days endorsements were key. And now? Well let's just say I've got a few things cooking myself. Mongolia's currently sitting at 3 4% of GDP from tourism. They want to more than double that. That's like going from a rookie contract to a max deal in one season! 'Some people want it to happen some wish it would happen others make it happen.' and that's what they are trying to do!
Record Breakers: 808,000 Strong!
Last year they had a record breaking 808,000 tourists. That's not bad but to get to 2 million they gotta step up their game. They’re talkin' about nature adventure culture and spiritual tourism. Sounds like they're trying to cover all the bases – kinda like me on the court. You gotta be versatile you gotta be adaptable and you gotta know your audience. And you gotta want to get better! I always wanted to get better!
Taking Flight: United Airlines to the Rescue
United Airlines is now flying direct (well with a stop in Tokyo) to Ulaanbaatar. Chinbat called it a 'milestone.' I call it smart! Getting those American tourists over there is crucial. They're hoping to double the number of U.S. visitors from 22,000. See even in tourism 'Talent wins games but teamwork and intelligence win championships.'
Build It and They Will Come: Infrastructure Needs
Now here's where it gets real. They need to invest $4 billion in roads hotels and all that jazz. It's like building a brand new arena – expensive but necessary if you want to be a top contender. The government's offering low rate loans trying to get everyone involved. Smart move. You can't win a championship with just one player; you need a whole team! And that team is going to have to build!
Sustainability is Key: No Fouls Allowed!
Most importantly they gotta do it sustainably. Protect those natural resources and make sure the locals benefit. That's like playing clean basketball – no cheap shots no unnecessary fouls. Gotta respect the game and the people around you. After all 'You have to expect things of yourself before you can do them.' So they have to expect to do it sustainably! And if they do they will attract more talent!

Hopefully, this tourism boost will create more jobs for Mongolians.
