May the Odds Be Ever in...Whose Favor Exactly?

Alright alright settle down. Katniss Everdeen here District 12's finest (and arguably most cynical) export. You'd think after all the arena nonsense the Capitol would be the only place with enough backstabbing to fill a story but apparently Beijing's giving them a run for their money. Word on the street – or you know the wire services – is that they've swapped out some big players in their government. Seems like someone didn't make the cut this year.

Trading Places: Not Just a District 12 Game Anymore

So this Li Chenggang fella is now the Vice Minister of Commerce and top dog in trade negotiations. He's replacing Wang Shouwen which let's be honest sounds like the start of some complicated betting pool the Gamemakers would devise. Apparently Li's job is to smooth things over with the U.S. since they're currently slapping tariffs on each other like they're playing a twisted version of Duck Duck Goose. I'd almost feel sorry for them if the fate of nations wasn't at stake...again.

Remember the Private Sector! Or Else...

Apparently Li's already been schmoozing with the big bosses trying to calm their nerves after President Xi showed his support for private companies. Probably told them “See? We’re not all bad!” You know the kind of empty promises you hear before someone announces a new set of Hunger Games rules. I will just say that if they want private companies to trust them they need to do better than promises.

The Plot Thickens (Like Gravy in the Training Center)

But wait there’s more! It seems they’ve also given the boot to the head of the National Immigration Administration and the Vice Foreign Minister. I don't know about you but it's giving me the same vibe as President Snow changing the rules in the middle of the Quarter Quell. All I'm saying is watch your back. Everyone is a pawn in this game I thought we all knew that.

Talks? What Talks? More Like Silent Treatment

And about these ‘trade talks’ with the U.S.? Don’t hold your breath people. The report says no signs of things easing up. It’s like trying to get Peeta to admit he’s not completely head over heels for me – impossible. They're both just digging in their heels probably hoping the other side starves first. Classic.

Stay Tuned and May the Odds…Nevermind.

So there you have it. More government drama than you can shake a mockingjay pin at. Keep your eyes peeled folks because in this game the only thing predictable is that everything will change. And remember what I told Prim? Stick with me. Because surviving is what I do.
