Breaking News: China's Got a New Player in Town

Well well well look who's decided to break bad… or should I say break into the EV market? Xiaomi that little electronics company is all grown up and thinkin' they can take on the big dogs like Tesla. Their stock's gone up more than my blood pressure after a run in with Hank all thanks to their new electric SUV the YU7. Apparently everyone's going nuts for it. Personally I think they're mistaking ambition for achievement. Remember what I always say tread lightly.

Price Wars? More Like Price Skirmishes

This Lei Jun character the CEO seems to think undercuttin' Tesla by a measly 10,000 yuan is some kind of victory. It's like offering someone a sliver of pizza and expecting them to forget the whole pie. He claims the YU7 beats Tesla in a range of metrics but driver assist? Not so much. Sounds like someone's cutting corners. 'No half measures,' that's what I always preach. And cutting corners? Well that's the 'half measure' way of doing things.

200,000 Orders in Three Minutes? Color Me Skeptical

Two hundred thousand orders in three minutes? Now that sounds like a number cooked up in a meth lab. Too good to be true if you ask me. Maybe they're using some of that AI to fudge the numbers. Remember Jesse what I said about expecting honesty from people? It's foolish.

AI Features: Distractions or Innovations?

Hand motions to change a song? An app to tell you where you parked your car? Sounds like they're trying to distract you from something. You wanna know where your car is? Pay attention! And these AI glasses? Scanning QR codes with your face? I prefer a good ol' fashioned paper trail thank you very much. In my world privacy is not a luxury. It's a necessity.

Driving Range: The Real Test

They say it goes further than Tesla's Model Y. Range is a fickle thing. Ask anyone who's ever tried to outrun the DEA. It all comes down to the battery and the battery tech. If they are using lithium ion batteries it might be interesting as I have some experience in battery manufacturing. It takes a very stable environment to get a good result but it seems like they have it under control. Only time will tell if they can actually deliver on that promise.

Stay Tuned: The Game's Just Begun

So Xiaomi's making a play. Good for them. But remember it's not about who starts the race it's about who finishes it. And in this game I wouldn't bet against the Heisenberg of the automotive world. Because let's face it I am the danger. And so is competition. Stay tuned folks. This is just getting interesting.
