No Half Measures: Missing Billions in China

So it seems Mr. Huang over at Nvidia is having a bit of a… predicament. Apparently the U.S. government decided that China shouldn't have access to Nvidia's fancy AI chips. Fifty billion dollars gone! Like that methylamine I needed for my uh *science project*. He's talking about a 'multibillion dollar writeoff'. Honestly sounds like someone needs to learn how to cook up a solution and I don't mean with silicon! Revenue is up sixty nine percent...nice!

Say My Name: The Man Who Blocked the Sales

Now it wasn't Biden that made these restriction no sir it was that orange man Donald Trump. According to the article the Trump administration tightened the screws on Nvidia's H20 processor effectively cutting off sales to China. National security concerns they say. Like they know anything about real danger. I've seen things *things* that would make those pencil pushers faint. This could be bad real bad like that time I thought Hank was on to me.

Treading Lightly: Huang's Delicate Dance

Huang is quoted thanking Trump for the rescinding the pending “AI diffusion” rule that would have put AI chip quotas on most countries and praised him for helping strike deals with Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to build massive data centers in the Middle East. Building stuff here at home. Gotta stay on the right side of the man or he might start sniffing around if you know what I mean. I've been there almost lost everything.

Respect...or Fear?: Acknowledging the Competetion

Huang's quoted saying China will “move on” with or without Nvidia’s chips and that Chinese AI researchers will turn to homegrown chips and technology from companies including Huawei. I've seen competitors rise and fall but underestimating them? That's a rookie mistake. China will adapt. They'll evolve. And that's when things get interesting. Makes you wonder how Heisenberg would compete with them if he had to.

The Empire Business: A Bitter Pill to Swallow

The article mentions Nvidia had to write off $4.5 billion in inventory and that they had $8 billion in planned H20 orders that now have to be scrapped. Ouch. Talk about a hit to the empire business. Makes you think twice about putting all your eggs in one basket. I should know. Though I'm guessing Mr. Huang has a bit more of a 'contingency fund' than I ever did.

I Am the One Who...Waits

So what's Nvidia going to do? Well Huang admits there's no immediate solution and that the U.S. limits are "quite stringent." He says "The president has a plan. He has a vision and I trust him." Yeah right. Trusting someone else to solve your problems? That's how you end up buried in the desert. But hey maybe Huang will surprise us all. Maybe he'll cook up something brilliant. Though frankly I doubt it. Nobody cooks quite like Heisenberg after all.
