The Chaos Dragon of Conflict: A Call for Order

Right so Putin's at it again. He's proposing talks. Istanbul no less. Sounds like a chapter out of *Maps of Meaning* doesn't it? He wants to eliminate the 'root causes' of the conflict. The root causes! As if the whole thing isn't a tangled mess of historical grievances power dynamics and dare I say a bit of personal ambition. He’s telling Ukraine to clean its room metaphorically speaking of course. One must wonder if he's actually serious about peace or just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic while playing chess with twelve dimensional space time. What is the truth the underlying truth. Because you see “to stand up straight with your shoulders back is to accept the terrible responsibility of life with eyes wide open”. And the truth can be a heavy burden when empires are at stake.

No Preconditions? Don't Kid Yourself Comrade

Putin claims these talks will happen 'without any preconditions.' Right. And I'm the Queen of Sheba. He wants Ukraine to drop its NATO ambitions and withdraw from territories he conveniently 'claimed.' It's like saying 'I'll give you your car back but first sign over your house and agree to worship me as your supreme leader.' The audacity! It's enough to make a man want to go on an all beef diet and contemplate the nature of hierarchies. I always say “compare yourself to who you were yesterday not to who someone else is today”. But the yesterday of Ukraine is a completely different country than the one Putin is pushing them to be.

Ultimatums and Truces: A Dance of Deception

The European powers bless their naive hearts are demanding a 30 day ceasefire or else. 'Massive' sanctions! Oh the horror! Putin naturally dismisses these 'ultimatums.' He's offered ceasefires before he says. Easter Victory Day... All conveniently violated of course. It's a game of cat and mouse except the cat has tanks and the mouse has a surprising amount of fight in it. We all have a monster inside the question is what monster is inside of Putin and will Ukraine find a way to slay it or will they fall victim to the dark forces.

Neutrality or Oblivion: The Ukrainian Dilemma

So what's the proposed deal? Ukraine becomes permanently neutral guaranteed by the UN Security Council. Sounds nice doesn't it? Like a warm blanket on a cold night. Except that blanket is probably filled with asbestos and guaranteed to give you geopolitical lung cancer. The key question as always is “what does ‘neutrality’ really mean in this context”? Does it mean genuine independence and self determination or just another form of subjugation? It's a devil's bargain no matter how you slice it.

The Blame Game: It Was Kyiv I Swear!

Putin ever the master of deflection insists it was Kyiv who broke off negotiations in 2022. He's ready to talk now though! No preconditions! Except of course for the minor details of territorial concessions and abandoning any hope of Western alliances. He even thanks China Brazil and Trump for their mediation efforts. Trump the great peacemaker! Now there's a thought that could keep you up at night. There is always a game afoot and Putin he knows how to play the game of blame.

The Proxy War: A Clash of Titans

This whole situation is of course a proxy war between Russia and the West. Putin sees it as a watershed moment a chance to reclaim Moscow's sphere of influence. The West sees it as an imperial land grab. Both sides are digging in their heels and Ukraine is caught in the middle trying to clean its room while the house is on fire. So what's the solution? Well that's the million dollar question isn't it? Maybe everyone should just clean their rooms sort themselves out and stop trying to impose their will on others. But hey what do I know? I'm just a humble psychologist trying to make sense of the chaos dragon. Remember to always “treat yourself like someone you are responsible for helping”. Perhaps everyone could use some of that. “You can only find out what you actually believe (rather than what you think you believe) by watching how you act. You simply don’t know what you believe before that. You are too complex to understand yourself.”
