Stoxx 600 Feels the Pinch
By the time I'd finished my donut this morning the pan European Stoxx 600 was already looking a bit sad down about 0.2%. Most of the big markets were in the red. It's like when I accidentally wear two different shoes to work except this time it's the whole continent feeling a little off. Doh'.
Heineken Says 'Auf Wiedersehen' to Jobs
Heineken the beer that makes me say "Mmm beer," is apparently having a tough time. They're planning to cut 5,000 to 6,000 jobs over the next couple of years. That's a lot of people saying "D'oh" Instead of 'to alcohol the source of and solution to all of life's problems!' It's all part of some big plan to make more money by 2030 but in the meantime people are losing their jobs. Speaking of losing Estée Lauder Accuses Walmart of Selling Counterfeit Beauty Products. Apparently the profits of beauty products is also a complex world.
Dassault Systèmes' Epic Fail
Ouch. Shares of some fancy French software company called Dassault Systèmes took a nosedive plunging almost 20%. They had a bad year and well that's the kind of result I get when I try to explain quantum physics to Lisa. It's their worst trading day ever which is saying something. Serves them right for having such a complicated name that I can't even pronounce.
Siemens Energy Gets a Jolt
On the brighter side Siemens Energy is doing great. Their profits almost tripled thanks to all those data centers. It's like Krusty Burger suddenly becoming the most popular restaurant in Springfield. I wonder if they need a safety inspector? I'm totally qualified. I once successfully prevented a nuclear meltdown... almost.
Lufthansa Grounded by Grumbles
Lufthansa the airline that sometimes flies is about to be hit by a strike. The pilots are unhappy about their pensions. It's like when I complain about my dental plan. They want a 24 hour strike which means chaos for travelers. Marge always tells me "Homer you can't just solve every problem with a strike!" But maybe sometimes you can.
Wall Street Awaits Jobs Report
Everyone's waiting to see what the U.S. jobs report says. Will there be lots of jobs or not many jobs? It's like waiting to see if Lenny will share his donut. You just never know. In the meantime I'm gonna go see if Marge made meatloaf for dinner. Doh I hope not.
