Earnings That Would Make Tony Stark Jealous

Well folks looks like someone's been doing their homework. AppLovin not a name I usually hear around Avengers Tower just reported earnings that are shall we say 'super' impressive. We're talking $1.67 per share versus an expected $1.45. Revenue? A cool $1.48 billion beating the $1.38 billion forecast. As someone who once lived on a soldier's salary these numbers are mind boggling! It seems some folks are figuring out how to make the world a better place one algorithm at a time.

Goodbye Games Hello Greenbacks

Here's where it gets interesting. AppLovin's selling its mobile gaming business to Tripledot Studios for $400 million in cash plus a 20% stake in Tripledot. Now I'm no Wall Street wizard but that sounds like a good deal. Maybe they figured out gaming isn't as profitable as say saving the world from HYDRA. Then again those mobile games can be pretty addictive almost as bad as those darn World War II propaganda reels! They expect the deal to close in the second quarter of 2025; plenty of time to practice my Sudoko skills I suppose.

A Glitch in the Matrix

Hold your horses though. AppLovin's projecting second quarter sales between $1.2 and $1.22 billion which is below the $1.38 billion analysts were hoping for. Even superheroes have their off days I guess. But they're still showing a huge profit from last year with first quarter net income up from $234 million or 67 cents per share in the same quarter of 2024 to $576 million or $1.67 per share. Is this a blip or is something bigger at play? Only time and maybe a well placed shield throw will tell.

AI: The New Super Serum?

Seems like the secret ingredient here is AI. AppLovin's advertising unit is booming thanks to 'rapid advancements in artificial intelligence.' They saw a 700% stock surge in 2024. Good grief. Apparently AI is the new super serum. But remember what Dr. Erskine said 'Whatever happens tomorrow you must promise me one thing. That you will stay who you are not a perfect soldier but a good man.' Hopefully this AI doesn't turn anyone into Red Skull 2.0.

TikTok Tango: A Long Shot Worth Taking?

Now this is where things get really interesting. AppLovin's proposing a deal with TikTok. Not buying it outright mind you but merging with it. CEO Adam Foroughi calls it a 'long shot,' but hey I've taken longer shots than that. He's talking about addressing security data and content challenges while 'unlocking massive potential.' If they pair AppLovin's algorithm with the TikTok audience it's going to be huge. Maybe they should partner with the Wakandans? They always know what's what with new technology.

National Security and Algorithms: My Two Favorite Things

Foroughi says their priority is solving 'national security concerns with regards to biases in the algo and data in the U.S.' It's important outside of China too. 'And to do that you really truly do have to have operational control.' Sounds like someone's been watching too many shield briefings. But honestly he's right. Gotta keep an eye on these things. Can't let another Ultron happen. Maybe the Avengers should offer consulting services. We're always on the lookout for global threats after all.

Is AI really the future, or just another bubble?
