Suddenly Trade is a Geneva Convention?

So I couldn't help but wonder... after all the drama the tariffs the accusations – could it be? Could the U.S. and China actually be dare I say it *dating* again? Apparently according to China's Ministry of Commerce they've agreed on a framework to ease trade tensions. You know the kind that involves allowing rare earth exports and tech restrictions to loosen their grip. It's like they're finally agreeing on whose turn it is to pick up the check after a disastrous first date. Remember that whole 'Geneva agreement' everyone was talking about? Well apparently we're giving that another shot like trying to salvage a pair of Manolos after a puddle incident.

Trump Tweets and Trade Treats

President Trump ever the showman hinted at this new understanding. A White House official later clarified it was an 'additional understanding of a framework,' which sounds like diplomatic code for 'we're still figuring this out but it's better than nothing.' It's like saying you're 'exclusive' after only holding hands once. Are we rushing into this? After high level talks in London – because apparently international trade deals are best negotiated over tea and crumpets – both sides are trying to stabilize their relationship. You know like when you and your ex awkwardly try to be friends but you still remember that time they borrowed your favorite cashmere sweater and never returned it.

Rare Earths: The New Must Have Accessory?

Now let's talk about rare earths. These are apparently the new must have accessory in the national security world. China will review export applications while the U.S. will cancel some restrictive measures. But don't get too excited ladies. According to Alfredo Montufar Helu we should 'temper expectations.' He says it's not clear which rare earth export curbs will be relaxed except for magnets. Magnets! It’s like being promised a diamond bracelet and getting a charm instead. Sure it’s cute but is it really going to solve your relationship problems? It appears China will 'likely continue constraining the trade in these goods,' which means they're still playing hard to get. So much for 'the most important kind of freedom is...freedom from wanting.!

Geneva: The City of Second Chances?

Remember the Geneva deal from mid May? The one where they agreed to suspend tariffs and roll back restraints? Well that faltered faster than a soufflé in a hurricane. Apparently China was slow walking on the rare earths and the U.S. tightened restrictions on tech and student visas. It’s like one person forgets to call and the other starts dating their personal trainer out of spite. Can this new agreement overcome the baggage of the past? Or will it end up like another pair of shoes I bought on sale only to realize they pinch my toes?

So What's the Deal?

The big question is: Is this trade deal real or is it just another mirage in the desert of international relations? Is it a sign that these two are finally ready to commit or will they end up ghosting each other faster than you can say 'tariffs'? We'll have to wait and see if this tentative trade framework blossoms into a full blown economic romance or ends up as another 'he's just not that into you' scenario. After all as I’ve learned in love and life sometimes the most exciting challenging and significant relationships are the ones that are hardest to figure out. Just like trying to decipher a Chinese menu without knowing the language.

Could this be the One?

As I walk the streets of Manhattan in my Jimmy Choo's I contemplate about this 'Trade Deal'. The world is full of trade deals some good some bad. This one seems promising but only time will tell. In the end I learned there is only one thing harder than finding love and that's finding a stable international trade agreement. Here's hoping this time they get it right. As a wise friend once told me "Maybe we can be each other's soul mates." Only time will tell.
