Oops! Did Someone Forget to Reboot Tesla?
Well folks it seems like Tesla's having a bit of a 'Blue Screen of Death' moment doesn't it? Down 44% this year! It reminds me of the early days of Microsoft except instead of debugging code we're debugging… well everything else. Those short sellers are having a field day. $11.5 billion in profits! Makes you wonder if they're using Windows or Linux to manage their trades. I bet it's Linux. Probably some version of Ubuntu. Free software right? That's important.
Trump Card or a Tariff Tantrum?
Now I'm no political pundit – I leave that to the guys arguing over COBOL versus FORTRAN – but it sounds like President Trump's policies are throwing a wrench into Tesla's EV production. Tariffs on parts and materials? That's like trying to run Windows 95 on a quantum computer! It just doesn't compute. Elon's gotta be feeling the heat. As I always say 'Success is a lousy teacher. It seduces smart people into thinking they can't lose.' Maybe it's time for a refresher course?
Robotaxi Rumble: Waymo Whizzes Tesla Wheezes?
And let's talk about robotaxis. Waymo's eating Tesla's lunch in this market. They're like the Internet Explorer of self driving cars right now! I recall those browser wars. Remember those days? But Elon promises a driverless ride hailing service in Austin. Bold move! Austin is a fun city! And with an innovative mayor. Can Tesla pull it off? Let's hope it's not another vaporware announcement. I was a king of vaporware. Ask anyone.
Short Seller Shenanigans: Red Shorts and DOJ Probes?
Ah the eternal battle between Elon and the short sellers. It's a saga worthy of a Shakespearean tragedy… or maybe just a really long tweet thread. Remember those red satin shorts Tesla sold? Pure genius! Although I'm not sure they're the kind of shorts you'd wear to a board meeting. And a DOJ investigation? That's never fun. I remember when the DOJ came knocking at Microsoft. Always a stressful day. It's like getting a virus on your computer except the virus is the government.
Nvidia's Not Immune: The Tech Titan Tumble!
Tesla's not alone in this tech downturn. Even Nvidia's feeling the heat down 28%! It's a tough market out there. Even for the chipmakers! I love chips. They are so very useful. It is interesting to see though that Nvidia is the most shorted stock. That's a lot of money on the line. I bet they are feeling a bit more pressure than I am. But I used to be a kid who programmed BASIC...so pressure is nothing new to me.
The Moral of the Story? Don't Underestimate the Underdog!
So what's the takeaway? Well it's a reminder that even the most innovative companies face challenges. And that short sellers while sometimes annoying play a role in the market. I have always felt that way. Ultimately it's about adapting innovating and of course writing good code. Or in this case building great cars and maybe staying out of Twitter wars. And remember 'Your most unhappy customers are your greatest source of learning.'

Those red shorts were hilarious. Musk has a great sense of humor!
