Hello Lover...Goodbye America?

Lately I've been wondering is America losing its allure? Like a Manolo Blahnik sale that's suddenly full of Crocs something feels...off. Word on the street—or rather on CNBC—is that Canadians are skipping trips to the U.S. and my darling Europeans might soon follow suit! Could this be the end of cosmopolitan cocktails and Central Park picnics as we know it?

Blame It on Brexit...Oh Wait Wrong Continent

Apparently it's not just about finding the perfect brunch spot anymore. Experts whisper about an 'unfavorable currency exchange rate' and...gulp...*Trump's trade policies*. I mean I always thought politics were best left to the pundits not my weekend getaways. But then there's this White House spokesperson practically channeling Samantha Jones declaring 'Everybody wants to come to President Trump's America.' Honey please! Does that come with a free Birkin bag and a guaranteed reservation at Pastis? Because otherwise I'm skeptical.

51st State of...Confusion?

And get this! The same spokesperson suggested Canadians 'will no longer have to endure the inconveniences of international travel when Canada becomes our 51st state.' Is this a serious bid for annexing our polite neighbors to the north? I mean I love a good plot twist but this feels like one too many cosmos on a Tuesday night.

Trudeau's Travel Tip: Stay Home Eh?

Meanwhile former Prime Minister Trudeau (oh to have that hair!) urged Canadians to 'choose Canada,' suggesting they explore their own backyard. It's like when Aidan kept suggesting we stay in on a Saturday night. Tempting but sometimes a girl just needs to see the bright lights of a different city you know?

A Trillion Dollar Headache

All this cross border drama is apparently causing a 'question of America's welcomeness' according to the U.S. Travel Association. Apparently the US had a $51 billion travel deficit (after medical and educational purposes) Americans are spending more money abroad than US is making from tourist visits...and to them I say 'I feel you' who has the money these days? Can I buy shoes...or should I buy food?

Travel Warnings: Not Just for Bad Dates Anymore

As if all that wasn't enough Germany the UK France Denmark and Finland have all issued travel warnings about visiting the U.S.. Apparently issues range from visa detainments to concerns about how the U.S. recognizes gender on passports. As Carolin Lusby tourism assistant professor at Florida International University said 'But a lot of times is we know that once a destination image changes it takes a lot of effort to bring back the trust,' and the economic consquences of the travel warnings 'could turn into billions of lost dollars'. It's like when Mr. Big kept disappearing – once that trust is broken it's hard to put the stilettos back on and walk away.

Can we blame this on Mercury being in retrograde?

I'm holding out hope that this is all just a bad dream.

Maybe we need a global summit on the importance of a good cosmopolitan.
