Move over, ale! The sober-curious revolution is here, with non-alcoholic beer poised to become the second-largest beer category. But will it ever truly dethrone the mighty lager?

The Times They Are A Changin' (and So Are Our Drinks)

Right listen up! The world's gone topsy turvy and even the drinks are evolving. Word on the street (or well from industry trackers) is that non alcoholic beer is about to muscle its way past ale to become the second biggest beer category. Now I've seen some crazy stuff out in the wild – eaten things that would make a goat gag – but this? This is a real shake up. Overall beer volume dipped a bit last year but the no booze brethren are charging ahead growing by 9%. Impressive. Adapt and overcome people adapt and overcome! It seems we're heading to the great outdoors for some alcohol free adventure.

Lager's Still King (For Now)!

Don't go thinking the reign of lager is over just yet. This king still has a market share of 92%. Lager is like the sturdy oak in the forest while non alcoholic beer is the nimble vine growing fast but still needing something to climb on. But these days survival requires more than just brute strength.

The Rise of the 'Sober Curious' Tribe

Now why this sudden surge in sobriety? Seems like the younger crowd – Gen Z and those millennials – are leading the charge. They're all about 'sober curious' and 'damp lifestyles.' I've survived on less water than some of these youngsters drink in a day but hey moderation is the name of the game. You can't always be necking down yak's milk sometimes you need a break! It's also a testament to how far they've come in mimicking the taste of the real thing.

Big Beer Gets the Zero Proof Bug

And the big boys are taking notice. Guinness Heineken Budweiser – they're all churning out zero proof versions faster than I can skin a rabbit. Non alcoholic beer sales hit over $17 billion last year! Remember folks you either adapt or you become food. Better to drink a non alcoholic beer than become someone else's dinner!

America's New Favorite Buzz Kill: Athletic Brewing

The US is catching up but they're not quite leading the pack. A company called Athletic Brewing is making waves grabbing a whopping 17% of the non alcoholic market. They're like the surprise snowstorm in the desert – nobody saw them coming. The guys from Athletic brewing are the underdogs I love that!

Celebrities Cash in on the Clean Livin'

Of course no trend is complete without a celebrity endorsement. Tom Holland Dwyane Wade Dax Shepherd – they're all jumping on the bandwagon faster than I can build a raft. If you see a celebrity backed non alcoholic beer in the wild proceed with caution...and maybe a pinch of salt. But who knows maybe these ventures are a good thing? Maybe we can all enjoy a pint without getting stuck in a mud pit afterward.
