The American Experiment Afoot!

My dear Watson the game is afoot and this time it unfolds not in the gaslit alleyways of London but in the hallowed halls of Washington! President Trump a man of... singular methods has declared his intent to reshape the American civil service. 'The world is full of obvious things which nobody by any chance ever observes,' I remarked to Watson once. This however is hardly unobservable.

Classifying the Classifiers!

It appears the U.S. government's human resources agency a department as thrilling as a Bradshaw railway guide is set to redefine its employees. Policy wonks the unsung heroes of bureaucratic inertia are to be re categorized under a new banner: 'schedule policy/career.' One might say that it is 'elementary my dear Watson' but this is merely a smoke screen for a much more insidious plan. The man intends to run the federal government 'like a business.' A sentiment so terrifying it rivals Mrs. Hudson's attempts at baking.

The Method to the Madness (Perhaps?)

Now I Sherlock Holmes am not one to jump to conclusions unlike some consulting detectives I could name (though I won't). But one cannot help but ponder the implications of such a move. Is this a stroke of genius designed to streamline the ponderous machinery of state? Or as my gut feeling suggests a means to install a pliable cohort ever ready to parrot the prevailing dogma? Only time and a healthy dose of deductive reasoning will tell.

A Touch of Cynicism As Usual

One cannot but remember my own dear brother Mycroft who is the British government. What Trump is trying to do is no different. However let us not forget 'There is nothing more deceptive than an obvious fact.' Could it be that there is a deeper game at play a strategy so cunning that it leaves us all in the dark? One might wonder 'how dangerous it is to reason' I would say it is far more dangerous not to.

Elementary My Dear Bureaucracy!

The potential for mischief is shall we say considerable. Imagine a government staffed not by seasoned professionals but by let's be charitable 'enthusiasts' utterly devoted to the President's whims. The implications for policy for the integrity of government are as worrisome as a Baskerville hound on a moonlit moor. A chain is only as strong as its weakest link and this new system seems primed to add several dubious links to the chain.

The Devil is in the Details (and the Schedule)

Therefore let us watch with keen eyes Watson as this drama unfolds. Let us observe the nuances the hidden meanings the subtle shifts in power. For in the grand game of politics as in the detection of crime 'You see but you do not observe.' And as always the fate of the nation may hang on the slender thread of a single well reasoned deduction. The game my dear Watson is most assuredly afoot and it smells vaguely of red tape and political maneuvering!
