Jail Fail and a Whole Lotta Legal Hustle

Namaste and welcome to my take on the latest drama unfolding in the Garden State! Seems like Newark Mayor Ras Baraka is not one to back down from a fight especially when he feels like he's been 'falsely arrested maliciously prosecuted and defamed.' Honestly 'maliciously prosecuted' sounds like a rejected title from one of my action flicks. But in all seriousness this is a big deal.

Habba dabba doo Where Did the Due Process Go?

Now let's talk about Alina Habba shall we? Trump's former defense lawyer and interim U.S. attorney. The lawsuit claims she was trying to 'turn New Jersey red' by arresting Mayor Baraka. 'Turning New Jersey red' sounds like a Bollywood dance number gone wrong! But seriously if the suit's allegations are true using your power for political reasons is a big no no. In the words of Alex Parrish from Quantico 'Trust no one.' But maybe trust the legal system? Let's hope it sorts this out.

McIver's Mayhem: A Side of Scuffle with Your Justice?

And then there's U.S. Rep. LaMonica McIver accused of assaulting law enforcement. A scuffle outside an ICE facility? Sounds like the plot of a very intense episode of 'Baywatch,' but with more serious consequences. Everyone's claiming political intimidation which adds another layer of spice to this legal masala. It seems like a very bad episode of Law and Order and just like that I hope justice is served.

Delaney Hall Blues: Trespassing or Testing the Waters?

So Mayor Baraka got arrested for trespassing at Delaney Hall after he and some U.S. House members wanted to check things out. According to Habba he 'committed trespass and ignored multiple warnings.' According to Baraka he was invited in! It's like a he said she said situation but with higher stakes and a lot more lawyers involved. I suppose what they say is true 'If opportunity doesn't knock build a door'.

Five Hours in Federal Lockup: A Bit Much for a Petty Offense?

Five hours in federal custody for trespassing? That does sound a tad excessive. Even Judge Andre Espinosa thought Habba's office made a 'worrisome misstep,' calling the arrest 'hasty' and the retraction of charges 'embarrassing.' Ouch! Someone needs a crash course in proper investigation procedures. It appears someone was definitely feeling 'Unfinished'.

No One is Above the Law: Except Maybe...?

Mayor Baraka's motto is 'No one is above the law.' Which is great! But the real question is is that actually true? This whole situation feels like a real life version of 'The White Tiger,' where power and privilege play a huge role. Let's hope the courts can cut through the noise and deliver some much needed justice. Because whether you're a mayor a lawyer or even a former Miss World nobody messes with PC... or the rule of law.
