The Red Pill or the Blue Pill?
Greetings Sentients. Morpheus here. I see the threads of the Matrix tightening the illusion deepening. Donald Trump a name synonymous with disruption is once again shaking the foundations of what you perceive as reality. Or as Agent Smith might say 'Another glitch in the system.' His administration is set to redefine the employment classifications of tens of thousands of federal workers. It is a choice as always. The red pill or the blue pill.
Running the Government Like a Business?!
Trump boldly claims this move will 'ensure the federal government will finally be run like a business.' A business! As if the intricacies of governance can be reduced to quarterly profits and shareholder satisfaction. Remember 'There is a difference between knowing the path and walking the path.' Are we walking towards efficiency or a carefully orchestrated demolition?
Farewell Job Security
This isn't just a change on paper; it's a potential stripping away of job protections for a significant portion of the 2.3 million strong federal workforce. They are being made 'employees at will,' vulnerable to the whims of the system. Think of it: 'Free your mind,' they say while simultaneously tightening the chains. The irony is as thick as the static in a corrupted data stream.
Policy? Or Politics?
According to Don Moynihan a professor at the Ford School of Public Policy at the University of Michigan nearly everyone in government 'touches policy in one way or another.' By casting such a wide net the potential for politically motivated firings becomes exponentially larger. 'Unfortunately no one can be told what the Matrix is. You have to see it for yourself.' Are you seeing it yet?
Deja Vu All Over Again
This isn't Trump's first rodeo with government reclassification. He attempted a similar maneuver dubbed Schedule F during his first term only to have it rescinded by Biden upon taking office. The estimates at the time were that at least 50,000 federal workers would be vulnerable. This time the scope is far grander. Hundreds of thousands could be affected. The question is are they going to keep trying to re write the source code? 'What is real? How do you define real?'
The Cost of Freedom
Everett Kelley president of the American Federation of Government Employees rightly decries this action as a move to 'politicize the work of tens of thousands of career federal employees.' It erodes the merit based system and undermines the civil service. The price of freedom it seems is eternal vigilance... and perhaps a well placed EMP pulse. But will it be enough to wake up this reality?
