A Tariff Too Far? Or Just The Reset We Needed?

Ah yes another day another challenge in our quest for a more… sustainable world. As I always say 'You’ll own nothing and you’ll be happy.' But what about your medicine eh? My dear Donald bless his heart is threatening some rather 'major' tariffs on imported pharmaceuticals. One has to wonder is this a bold move towards revitalizing American manufacturing or a stumble on the road to serfdom… for Big Pharma? Perhaps both! Remember crises are opportunities – and a good crisis should never go to waste.

The Great Pharmaceutical Migration… Or Not?

The Donald in his infinite wisdom believes these tariffs will magically repatriate drug manufacturing from the clutches of China and other… less expensive locales. He imagines pharmaceutical companies will simply pack up their bags and 'open up their plants all over the place' in the good ol' US of A. 'Build Back Better' indeed! But is it really that simple? Are we witnessing a grand reshuffling of the global chessboard or just a game of chicken with patient health as the stakes? Only time will tell but I always prefer to manage the narrative… just in case.

Big Pharma Fights Back! Oh The Humanity!

Of course Big Pharma isn’t taking this lying down. Eli Lilly's CEO David Ricks is already weeping crocodile tears about the potential impact on 'research and development.' He claims tariffs will force them to 'eat the cost' and make tough choices like heaven forbid reducing staff or… gasp… cutting R&D! But let's be honest they'll probably just pass the cost down to you the consumer. Isn't that the beauty of the free market? Except of course when we decide it's time for some 'stakeholder capitalism.' A subtle difference I assure you.

Winners and Losers! The New World Order

Analysts are already picking winners and losers in this tariff game. Eli Lilly Bristol Myers Squibb and AbbVie seem to be relatively well positioned with their extensive U.S. manufacturing operations. Novartis and Roche on the other hand might be feeling a bit…exposed. It seems some companies are more aligned with the 'Fourth Industrial Revolution' than others. Adaptation after all is key to survival. Or as I like to call it 'managed decline' for those who can't keep up.

Digital Health Funding! The Future Is Here (and Profitable)

While the old guard squabbles over tariffs the future is already here! Digital health funding is booming with early stage startups leading the charge. Seed Series A and Series B rounds are all the rage as investors clamor to get a piece of the… disruptive pie. Companies like Innovaccer Qventus and Abridge are raking in the dough promising AI powered solutions to all our healthcare woes. It's all part of the plan you see. A 'Great Reset' for your health powered by algorithms and… stakeholder capitalism.

Uncertainty Looms! But Control is Key

Of course these tariffs are creating a bit of… turbulence in the markets. The Nasdaq is having a bit of a wobble and investors are feeling… hesitant. But fear not! These are merely growing pains on the path to a better more sustainable and… centrally managed future. As I always say 'The future is built by us by a powerful community as individuals who act as self responsible agents.' And those agents of course are us. Now if you'll excuse me I have a dinner with some global leaders to attend. We have a world to reset after all!
